Fix the download capabilities already!

The solution to this is just to host the profiles on another site, private profiles where only a select few gets access (panyama you could do this and only invite the ones that you know have paid) and not post ANYTHING here on this forum anymore. It sucks of it has to go to this, but if nothing official is done and no one are willing to discuss a solution to the problem then it might be the way to go.

wel I already own a site with my profiles on it and such, but the ones here are like for the community only. not for some random tard which hacked HB and uses them ...I've made them for you lot.

We are taking legal actions against each competitor or cracker who does not follow the law. The cracker guy has already been localized in US and lawyers have targeted him.

I do not see any reason to protect any part of that forum. The only protection we do is on our software - and we will optimize that very soon. With the next patch there will be no more of this issue hopefully.

For the crack itself - it is not connected to our warden check systems and its not cracked the way that he has the source code - its a sort of disabling the auth. But by dissabling the auth you disable the connection to the warden monitoring.

ok, thats fine.. for you, but i still see the problem is that people who are working on plugins / cc's / profiles, for a community which has paid to use a service are being accessed by people who havent paid and choose not to support the community in anyway are getting easy access too them anyways, i havent released anything yet, but i have been working on horde profiles, basically 58 - 80.. at this point because im not too keen todo a 1-60 without flight paths / intercontinental travel.

That aside, i'm hesitant to release the others because i personally dont want people who have supported the project in anyway having access too it either. i feel it's a very valid point to have some measure in place to make sure only subscribed users have access to content.. as i saidin an earlier post, maybe there needs to be something put into honorbuddy where everything is stored remotley on a server and only accessable through the honorbuddy client once you log in.

i guess if "guests" find profiles that fit there immediate needs would increase the chance of a purchace. i think that was one of the reasons i bought hb lifetime.

maybe have the accuall download link removed for guests, then they would see the possiblitys, but not able to ripoff all the content created, using with a cracked version.

from my understanding trial account only works to level 20, what does a trial user need access to a 1-60 profile, thats fine, make threads accessable and downloads limited to paid subscribers - then put standard 1-20 profiles in for each starting zone with the bot, hell you want default 1-20 profiles i'll even help make them. alot of people in this thread would like to see things limited to paid subscribers and you cant tell me it doesnt annoy you a little the CC's n such you have made anyone can come in and download freely to use on there cracked version of the bot, because honestly after the time and effort you would have gone to to create it.. i cant see you being thrilled that someone who isnt part of the community, who doesnt support the bot. can use it anyway. I can honestly say that wouldnt please me one bit.

How does it affect you guys? If someone who hasn't paid downloads my CC, it doesn't affect me in any way. I don't get paid for my contribution, I made it for myself and for anyone who wants it. My personal feelings about the crackers aside, it literally makes no difference if I download it, if a paid user downloads it, or if a cracked user downloads it. The only people it affects are Bossland and Hawker, and if they don't want to lock down the forums, then no one else should have a problem with it. Its not like you're losing anything by having a cracker download your plugin/profile/cc as opposed to a registered user. You put the time in for this community, and the community gets a use out of it.

It would be one thing if you were charging, or only had a limited amount of downloads and as a result were being negatively impacted, but none of you are, so I'm having trouble seeing why its such a large issue for developers.

Same reason as I said above. If I'm a prospective buyer and I download the trial, I'm naturally going to peruse the forums and see what addons I can get. Some of the more avid trial users will want to try out different CC's, some questing profiles, maybe some lower level herb/mining profiles, some of the plugins to see what they do, etc. Instead of having to include each and every one of the plugins/ccs/profiles with the core (which would defeat the purpose of everything), they can come to the forums and get them without having to be a paid subscriber. We don't need to alienate the entire public because of a few crackers.

This is the same argument that people make against gold sellers or gold farmers. Everyone says that Blizzard wastes their time going after a few piddly gold farmers making a few hundred K a week instead of going after the big players. In this case, Bossland + Co are going after the big players instead of going after the little fish (and causing others to lose out at the same time).

Still, though, its not your fight to be worried about. The community still gets its use from your creations, which is exactly what you intended.

Ski, you may not care if the cracked users use your stuff, but I care about them using mine. I made it for the paying community. I dont mind the paying community destroying the server economy with my profiles, but I dont much like the crackers destroying it, definitely when I am paying so I have the chance to make tons of gold. Most of these crackers are the ones fucking things up for me.

Another factor is that the crackers aren't going to lose access to all the files just because you make them subscriber-only. They will just resort to buying a single paid account, downloading everything, then posting it on their own site (which I believe a few already do).

As I said before, I expect that to happen, but it still stops a shitton of people from getting them. All the crackers come here to look first thing. If they cant get them here, they will have to look somewhere else, and most of which probably wont find them. Also they will get outdated and wont have any support.
