WoW Down to 7.1 Million Subscribers
Blizzard had their Q1 2014 earnings call today, announcing that WoW is down to 7.1 million subscribers at the end of Q1 2015. This is down 2.9 million from the Q4 2014 call that listed WoW at 10 million subscribers. This appears to be the largest drop in subscriber count in the history of the game.

I'm getting quite bored of the game as well. There's not much content, the raids are boring and PvP has never been so unbalanced before ontop of there being absolutely no new PvP content that isn't complete shit (Ashran and Gladiator Sanctum).

Those numbers dont include all of the Game Time token subs I don't think.

I wonder where everyone is going. There certainly aren't any new MMOs cropping up.

Mostly people are bored of MMO's I am bored of WoW but I bot so I dont care. Now its free to play (Gold of gametime) I am going to keep botting even if its boring. While I play other games and work lol. But thats a HUGE lose and then they want to bring out another expansion they should just add more raids and more gear like FFX is doing, not another 10 damn levels.

I read somewhere that the next expansion is going to be their last one.

Had to happen eventually, thought about buying a WoW token to sell for gold then when I saw the price $20 for 1 token worth (currently) 23kg I was like yeah no thanks I can bot and get that. Tokens Imo are worthless to buy for real money because of how little they are worth. However if you don't want to spend actual money on game time, they added an amazing feature for us botters

The Santa Monica, CA-based company reported first quarter earnings of $394 million, or 16 cents per diluted share, lower than the 19 cents per share it earned in the year ago period, but well ahead analysts' expectations of 7 cents per share. Revenue of $703 million for the quarter also beat $656.7 million expectations.

Subscriber loss means nothing. a movie coming out, and more content in the works. blizzard is hiring all around... highly unlikely wow is going anywhere... now if someone could get the hbrelogger working....

Chilton had announced they had enough content to last another 10 years. and honestly, putting out expac content is one thing wow is good at. new quests, new zones, new class/spec stuff.

sure there are bugs, everyone complains about something. and people complain about things they read about, whether or not they have even experienced the bugs first hand. people just like to complain. did the shitty queue times suck at the beginning of wod? sure, but they removed all the 'first class to 100' achievements so who cares. raids came out weeks after, so raiders didnt care. but people who hadnt even logged in yet were complaining about ingame bugs.

why do i play wow and not find another game? because i like wow and i know wow, and i know people who play and i can hold a conversation with players ingame. its a time tested social game. you dont want to raid, you dont have to, dont like pvp, dont do it.

go bitch about your mom not making mac and cheese more than twice a week, stop complaining about a game you arent forced to play.

edit--slightly off topic, forgive me. power went out last night and i didnt get to bot that extra 20k i needed for another shitty wow mount, lawl

That is a shocking decline, but another thing to consider is that those numbers represent Jan / Feb / March ...Have the subscriptions continued to decline at the same rate over the last month? That would be very bad news for the current development team.

There are MMOs that do pretty well with less than 500,000 subscribers, so WoW losing people isn't anything serious. Blizzard has such a monopoly on the MMO market that they could lose 3/4th of their player base and still be the most popular MMO. If Blizzard loses a lot of players, I'm sure it'll try to find solutions, but the game is by no means ending.

bs, raid content is done for most so no reason to sub.

game is dumbed down to much tbh but thats not the reason.

funny how people always highlight the downs

this game is close to 10 years old and STILL 7 mill subs.

This expansion probably was the most fun I've ever had leveling through the new content. They did the new zones and experience pretty well but between Holinka taking over and GC being gone it feels like the game itself kind of went to shit. They spent too much time on Garrisons and it really shows. There's just not enough to do at 100. PvP's balance is a mess. Ashran might actually be the worst thing they've created in all 10 years. There's a lot of things I really liked in this expansion but there's even more I disliked. I'm really hoping Garrisons get scrapped next expansion in favor of more real content. If I wanted a Facebook game I'd go play one.

For me Garrisons was a good addition. I do not PvP at all. Never have, never will. I raid casually (LFR/Normal, HC very occasionally through PuG). I have 13 chars running with ilvl 650+. I play the AH. I simply still enjoy the game and I think WoD is a good expansion pack. Looking forward to 6.2 with the Naval Base + missions in the Garrison and so on, new raids and Mythic Dungeons. I think it's amazing what Blizzard has done with the game to make it last this long.
People who say "I'm already done with this xpac, where is the content" will ALWAYS be there. No matter how many content there really is. These people play 24/7 and only stop to sleep. I play 2000-3000 minutes PER WEEK and still have SO many things I would like to do... really folks, there is enough to go around. But, the die-hards will always say there is not enough content, because they rush through it all or just do not care about 75% of the other things that can be done in game.
Having said that; if HB would not be here I'm not sure I would play anymore. The only thing I do not care for anymore is doing my rotation. HB made WoW more fun for me, cause I can actually look at the scenes, raids, events without having to look at my keyboard or having to focus on health bars. I agree with Arradis; WoD has been the most fun expansion for me so far and I've been playing since July 2006 non stop. (Well, I do eat, sleep, work and so on :))

Those numbers dont include all of the Game Time token subs I don't think.
Those are Q1 numbers, from before tokens existed. And I'm sure in Q2 they'll count token subscriptions same way they count subscriptions that use game time cards.

For me Garrisons was a good addition.

IMO Garrisons were a horrible addition to the game. While the 'oooh, wow' factor was there for the first month or so, it is long dead. Garrison dailies are simply, a chore. They are like work more than a game or fun. Additionally, the Expac is not alt friendly at all, and I, like others I know, have many alts. It is no wonder WoW is dying, and I have no doubt it is (our server has had something like 7 raiding guilds just stop raiding within the last couple of months, and a few of our guild's raiders have just stopped playing as well). How long the death will take is another question altogether. On a good note, I'm not addicted to it anymore and BF seems happy to have his GF back.
