Insanity
Tier 16 - Fight Specific Guide
I've been reading through this thread on a regular basis, as well as the Portal/Demonic thread and saw the demand for a similar mini-guide that Kink posted for Demonic so I decided to create one for you guys.
I've shamelessly taken all of the graphics for this post from Kink, so kudos on that should go there.
Important notes for Insanity:
To make the routine go as fast as possible without affecting your FPS too much,
disable everything that you don't use! That means talents, QoL, Class Abilities, everything. Only enable what you absolutely need.
Configuring proper DoT Manager Settings:
This is meant as a introduction on how to maximize your DPS as there's only about 2 resets left until this whole section is invalidated.
You will also need to edit your refresh times and DOT Power % depending on your gear
To properly configure the DoT refresh timers to your specific playstyle (gems, gear, reforging, etc) it's important that you configure this to optimally refresh your dots to benefit the most from snapshotting. (RIP in WOD)
- When you log-in to the game, make sure that you have no other buffs on you than Shadowform.
- Hover your mouse over Shadow Word: Pain and Vampiric Touch. Take note of how long Shadow Word: Pain and Vampiric Touch lasts on your target.
For example: My Shadow Word: Pain and Vampiric Touch lasts 17.87s and 15.88s respectively.
One important thing to note - Shadow Word: Pain's duration increases as you gain more haste and Vampiric Touch's duration decreases as you gain more haste. Because of this fact, we will always round SWP's and VT's durations down.
- Go into the Insanity Settings and navigate to the "Shadow" tab. You'll find the DoTManager Settings here.
- On Shadow Word: Pain you want to fill in how long your Shadow Word: Pain lasts before haste procs/buffs.
Example; Mine lasts for 17.87s, I round that down to get 17s. I then input 17000 into this field.
- We then do the exact same thins for Vampiric Touch.
Example; Mine lasts for 15.88s, I round that down to get 15s. I then input 15000 into this field.
These 2 are the most important things that you need to worry about to substantially and effectively increase DPS.
Optimal Glyphs for most of the fights:
Glyph of Mind Flay
Glyph of Vampiric Embrace
Glyph of Inner Sanctum
You can alternatively change Glyph of Inner Sanctum for Glyph of Fade. Fade is not on the GCD, however, it will interrupt your current cast/channel when used. What you can do here is creating a macro to bind it with Shadow Word: Pain and replace it on your bars. This is spamable while moving for example.
Code:
#showtooltip Shadow Word: Pain
/cast Fade
/cast Shadow Word: Pain
Optimal opener:
Most guilds use DeadlyBossMods these days, or BigWigs. These both have a "countdown" feature. If your guild/you use this, or simply announce it through VoiceCom, do this manually at the 3-second mark:
- Halo
- Potion + Trinkets
- Mind Blast (This should hit right as the boss is pulled)
The CR will then take over from casting Mind Blast and cast any racials you have if you let it cast automatically, then apply Vampiric Touch, Shadow Word: Pain and cast Shadowfiend.
Boss-specific Talent Choices:
You will find my settings attached at the bottom of the post. I'll keep this updated as things progress and in WOD.
Immerseus
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Twist of Fate || Halo
Notes: Adds doesn't live long enough to benefit from other talents.
Time Halo for when small adds spawn and Mind Sear the shit out of them, preferably targeting a melee.
The Fallen Protectors
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Selectable || Angelic Bulwark || Twist of Fate || Halo
Notes: This is a fight where any of our Level 45 talents can be used. I preferably use From Darkness, Comes Light or Solace and Insanity.
Only cast Mass Dispel if your raid/healers require it!
Norushen
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Twist of Fate || Cascade
Notes: Another crap fight for us. Adds doesn't love long enough to make From Darkness, Comes Light effective.
When you go down to get Purified, save your Cascade for when you're attacking the shielded adds. Will hit all 3 when cast on one from behind.
Sha of Pride
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Twist of Fate || Halo
Notes: Time Halo for Self-Reflection adds, use a speed boost on yourself to get far enough away for max damage if you can.
Galakras
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Twist of Fate || Halo
Notes: Again, proper Halo usage and Mind Sear is paramount here.
Iron Juggernaut
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Power Infusion / Divine Insight || Halo
Notes: Again, proper Halo usage is paramount here. Make sure PI is used together with Solace & Insanity in Insanity talent settings.
Kor'kon Dark Shaman
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Twist of Fate || Halo
Notes: Limit movement as much as you can in this fight. Mind Sear like a god. Again, proper Halo usage is paramount as well.
General Nazgrim
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Twist of Fate || Halo
Notes: Limit movement. Optimal Halo usage is paramount.
Malkorok
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Twist of Fate || Halo
Notes: Limit movement. Optimal Halo usage is paramount.
Spoils of Pandaria
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Twist of Fate || Halo
Notes: Limit movement. Optimal Halo usage is paramount.
Thok the Bloodthirsty
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Divine Insight || Divine Star
Notes: Limit movement. Once the bats spawn on Heroic mode (I forgot if they do on Normal anymore) pop your second potion as they come down for Mind Sear.
Siegecrafter Blackfuse
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark / Spectral Guise || Twist of Fate / Divine Insight || Halo
Notes: Limit movement. You can take Spectral Guise depending on your tactic on this fight to avoid Sawblades and other crap. Again, Optimal Halo usage is key.
Paragons of the Klaxxi
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Spectral Guise || Twist of Fate || Halo
Notes: Limit movement. Spectral Guise to avoid Aim when cast on you. Again, Optimal Halo usage is key.
You can select between Twist of Fate and Divine Insight here, depending on how long Amber Parasites are alive/avoided and so on. They preform about equally anyway.
Garrosh Hellscream
[Normal] & [Heroic]
Solace and Insanity || Angelic Bulwark || Twist of Fate || Halo
Notes: Limit movement. Try and time Halo so you optimally hit as many adds as possible on the pull (use it like 5 seconds into the pull),
then otherwise so you hit as many weapons as possible. (Depends on your strategy.)
