Many people who sell drugs don't even make $1400 a month, a botter makes maybe $50, $100 if he's good. Not $1400 / month.
That's almost 70k a year, Not happening.

If the guy is talented enough and motivated enough to be an entrepreneur, then he might make a living selling gold. He would not be the first guy to do it. However, any entrepreneurship is risky. He needs to know the risks, have a good plan, and have an even better backup plan. Most entrepreneurs fail, and many of them give up on their dream after the first or second failure. OTOH, some fit Einstein's definition of insanity by doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. Then, there are a few entrepreneurs that know how and when to adjust the plan to fit the dream. They are the success stories.

Anyone saying that farming gold is not possible to make a living off of has obviously not crunched the actual financial numbers and requirements for such. While being heavy in the start up area and extremely risky during your infancy in the market you can certainly survive through the rough patch and work your way into a much larger market. However most people don't have the knowledge, the ability or the computing power to bot at the level you need to make such money.

Anyone claiming that a "botter makes xxx a week" is talking out their ass. You can't average what a botter makes because guess what, you can't statistically group the cash flow entering from this market. One botter may make $1,400 a week and he may be running some pretty powerful equipment on multiple servers with expenses he acquired for cheap. Hell, I acquired 6-8 wow accounts so far upgraded all the way to Cataclysm for free just from knowing people who quit the game before they ever reached level 40.

Possible, yes. Average success story, absolutely not.

buying SoR acc's for 30k is faster..
i've bought quite a few cd keys.. so he's giving me 10k discount instead of 5k discount.. so i only have to pay 60k for a MoP cd-key..
then i bot to 90, takes about 3 days.
within 2 days, the bot has already made profit.

repeat untill enough profit is reached ;D

How do you get all the HB keys to run all of those bots? That seems like it would be expensive to purchase between 10 to 30 bot keys. I know it's a one time investment, but 30 bot keys would cost around $750 USD. That is a huge start up cost for a risky market.

If you don't have the cash to start up into a large market, you work your way up. $750 is hardly a huge start up cost when you look into other factors that deem monetary rewards. In today's stock market, $750 won't even put you in decent earnings in a respectable time frame without putting it all into extremely volatile stock.

Like has been stated over and over.... Find buyers. I get approx $2/k for most sales. I am in a large Guild and very well known on the server. I sell mainly to guildmates so, the trading isn't as suspicious. so, they pay for the "Security" of buying from someone that is a regular trader on the server. I make about $500/week doing this, it isn't too much, but I do have a regular job. ;-)

500 a week sounds bs and $2 a k also is a rip off, If you are really making that much you must have a fair few bots running. But its the forums anyone can talk bull crap I would not believe anyone online.

hey guys i make 50k+ a year running 3 bots, but its not as much as i make at my real job at mcdonalds, i make 100k fliping burgers, the trick is to get really high first and then you will start making more money. cuz then all you have to do is just type out how much you want to make and post it on a forum and walla you can make as much as you want.
on a side note, im thinking maybe its not a good idea to buy more bots since im only makeing $66 a day per bot (which is terrible).. so instead i think ill just stock up on more drugs! yay me, i r so smart.

Long time botter here, running my own business since 4+ years.
Making a living off virtual currency is possible, but i can assure you that it takes a good amount of time.

There's ALWAYS something left to do, you have to master computer programming (if you really want a tool that works as you want, you have to craft it yourself). You have to deal with clients, either showing some love to your customers, or advertising somehow to find new ones. You have to keep yourself always well informed about any news, and ALWAYS think for new forms of profit. Bots get banned, you have to think in advance about that and keep a good storage of sacrificable toons.
The bot is not 100% stable and trustworthy, it gets stuck, doesn't authenticate, and several other issues. These issues are a pain in the ass ofc.

Having a few good friends to exchange favors with is also a big part of the business, i met a few fellow botters whose help has been invaluable sometimes. To get friends you have to be worth something, i mean that you have something worthy to share with someone who has something worthy for you. Never share 100% of your secrets ofcourse.

But all these issues are nothing, you can always find a way to make enough gold, and make more toons..the biggest problem is that in certain periods you're going to sell a lot, in certain others there's just not enough demand (like when a new patch/xpack are expected to get out soon). So you end up with millions of golds, without a single customer to sell them to. In this kind of occasions, you need to rely on another form of sustainment, either a different game, or a whole different market.

As any other business, you have to risk to gain a result. And sometimes it sucks balls to lose money because you weren't careful enough, or you just got unlucky. Sometimes you just spend 2-3 days setting up some sort of profit-making circuit, only to find it's been nerfed the day after.


My advice: start small, don't quit your job. Make some toons, find a way to maximize the profit per hour(IE invest in professions). Keep track of the time you spend on every project, and the outcome. ALWAYS think in the "set&forget" state of mind, the profit comes from the fact that the bots works for free, if you exchange your time for golds, and golds for money than it's very badly paid job Think outside the box, and "nobody has ever done it before" doesn't asways mean it doesn't work

How do you guys protect your online investment? It seems like every time I get a decent stash of gold (only happened twice) that someone hacks one of my accounts and raids my guild bank. They always seem to know which account has the best access to the GB, and it seems like they always find a way to hack the email account that is attached to that WoW account. Hacking the various email accounts is the way they have gained access to my WoW accounts. I'm afraid to ask Blizzard to restore everything because they will probably figure out the account is botted if they do any research at all on the account. So, how do you protect your WoW accounts from being hacked? If you are setting up a simple account to use for selling the gold, do you want to actually put your own name on it by linking a cellphone to use it as an authenticator? Do you spend an extra $5 on such accounts for a WoW authenticator? I thought the whole idea was to spend as little cash as possible, but almost any WoW account is subject to being hacked. How do you avoid or how do you fix it if you make a living off of it?

I actually wrote a guide a couple of years ago on this with the maths of gold at the time and how you can end up with 5 accounts or so from one and how long it will take. Like any business you need to plan it out and set aside money for bans. If you expect one ban per month then you need to budget for that and have a new account ready to hotswap over. Really your going to be constantly leveling one or two accounts to offset against bans.

If you play it right then you can comfortable have 6 accounts thanks to your initial investment in one account. Even if you get $20 per bot per day and you can replicate that over 6 accounts thats $120 per day but then how much of this is going on game time and fresh accounts not to mention you need to factor electricity and other expenses. Most computers will run 6 accounts on basic settings but you will struggle for more. Once you hit this cap you need to factor in upgrades and the rest of it and the potential of more machines which again is a factor of your profit.

Based on what im doing at the minute with one account you need to budget a month to get off the ground and level 1-90 along with your profs and getting enough gold for your second account. You then need to think of how long to bot that second acc up. By the time your second acc is 90 you can probably buy a further 1-2 accs out of your profits from bot 1 during that period. Then while you level your third acc your 1 and 2 acc should generate enough gold to buy a second license for HB meaning you can now begin leveling your 4th acc while acc 1,2,3 farm ready to fill your spare two slots.

Not sure if this makes a lot of sense and dont bother commenting flawing my plan as its just a general structure that hasnt been thought through and analysed I just wrote it as an example and loose plan.

You are using same email / pass combo to forums as you do in wow. Thats how 'professionals' make their greatest income atm.
