[GUIDE] VMware + D3 | they way it shoud be done

how to make the windows folder only 8gb? mine has 14GB .. with sp1. and my diablo is 11GB.
 
You have to install a Lite version of 32 bit Windows, then also turn off a lot of features and do various tweaks, disable page file etc. You also dont need to do updates. With Diablo i think he only means to link the essential files to run the game, which are all in the batch file text.
 
i decided to start over from scratch, but this time i don't have enough space to install net framework 4.0.. (it's 1 gb wtf?)

edit:

nvm i guess that's an issue with vmware not showing the correct HD size. i have 10 gb allocated but i checked the size of the actual files and it's taking up 18 gb currently on the VM.

running 64 bit win 7


edit:

accidently did "compact virtual disc" and ended up with 1 gb more space lol. Was that a bad mistake?

Lol i dont really know what compacting does, probably compresses files so maybe not the best idea. As for 64 bit Win 7 there is really no point, you are trying to save space. The only reason to use it would be if you were going to allocate more than 4 gb ram to that VM which is unlikely unless you plan to run a lot of bots on the one VM? Seriously you guys should all get this great little 32 bit version: 'windows 7 ultimate sp1 x32 lite v3 by nil-nt'. You can get it as a torrent; no key required, comes with sp1 and very stripped down to bare essentials. As lite on resources as an XP install but with the stability and improvements of Win 7!
 
ah yea ur right.. fuck,, now i have to start all over again lol.

each of my clones take up 2gb, is this normal? ( i think 1gb of this is net framework 4.0)

dammit!!! I was suppose to do this guide.. but I just got banned... anyways thanks for this guide :).. Imma still this VM on the other way around.

I can make it run the exe and it goes to updating setup files through launcher. But it gets stuck! Doesnt actually update.

What do you think of hosting Diablo 3 and DB on the host machine ? Basically I am thinking of hosting and sharing through the network Diablo 3 folder and DB on my physical machine, and access to it by network in my VM machines ?

As I understood in your guide you set up something like this instead :

Yeah, is not the fancy launcher just the simple dialogue, but the bar doesnt move past 20%. The main PC D3 is fully updated.

I think it might have to do with the infinite update loop bug that so many people have a problem with in general. Ive tried applying some of the suggested fixes but it doesnt help so far.

edit: ok i just tried again and it did work so wtf...

Shaliuno, some questions:

1) Is it possible to use your method to make each DB run using Kane's DRelog loader?

2) How to automate running the .exe through cmd so you dont have to do it the long way each time?
 
Raoul, thats exactly it with the diagrams, and yes i managed to get the first part working using the model that you want to do. It doesnt matter where the folders are as long as you have the right pathing in the batch files.

Just a little question,
I've allready tried VMWARE before - with a *PVN* on my host - and my VM get the same *modified* IP than my host.
Since the VM does not use the *PVN* software, it's not supposed to have your *normal* IP on it ??

I hope you understand my poor english :p
