CPU Comparison

the idea is not in how is slow or faster the idea is in memory size.

Unless you plan to upgrade to 32gb in the future, I see no reason to get 8 gb sticks... And even if u plan o upgrade to 32gb, I would just choose to buy a motherboard that have 8 dimm slots, 8 x 4gb will cost around 200 lesser than 4 x 8gb ram :)

Nah I just shifted back to my 4.2 ghz stable oc that runs around 76 degrees :/

4x8 and 8x4 are the same price range on newegg maybe you're buying from the wrong sites.

Take it from me... I have 2 great systems

If you have the money, get the high end intel stuff

If you want a system for 1000-1500, go amd. Unless you're running 20 accts, you can easily overclock the 8-core amd to 4.4ghz w/o fiddling with the voltage. You can actually get it to around 5-5.4 on liquid cooling (I haven't had the need to yet, but I have gotten mine to 4.8ghz on air and I recently switched to 4.4ghz / liquid cooling. it runs super cool btw on an h100)

ram - if you're going to overclock it, go with a good name brand. If you're not ... I bought some cheap 32gb (4x8gb) ram from amazon - a company called Komputerbay ... the ram works fine, no issues at all.

cooling - bite the bullet and get the h100, do yourself a favor and get the 4x 120mm fan set from amazon or newegg for $15 or so (coolermaster) so that you can add in 2 more fans, and maybe have extra fans for your case

I have the RoG crosshair v board ... and it's very friendly (you get to use your mouse in the bios! yay!)

If you go intel... either go big or go home. spend the 500 on the cpu and 300 on the mobo (amd is 200 for mobo and 200 for cpu... 1/2 the cost of the intel set)

I will not get an intel until either they cut their shizz in 1/2, or until I have the need to actually utilize their whole processing power

my h100 (w/ 4x 120mm fans) and amd 8-core @ 4.4ghz (up from 3.6ghz stock) runs at 12c idle, and room temp for medium load (room temp is around 25c usually, sometimes lower); 30-35c heavy load

Thanks for all of the responses thus far, just 1 question.

I keep hearing about overclocking, but how do you do it and for what purpose would someone overclock their CPU?

ok think of it this way...

on your car, you burn gas at a given rate...

if you make your injectors pump faster and your distributor advanced ... you'll get a little more power out of your car (but burn more gas of course)

in a computer - you overclock the cpu (ie: mine is stock 200 speed x18 multipler (3.6ghz) - i changed mine to 200 x22 and it's fine. any more and I have to give it more voltage, which is dangerous if you don't know wtf ur doing). You can also adjust the clock (200) to a higher number, but then that also affects the ram and other hypertransport clocks as well... and you have to downclock those after you overclock the fsb (front side bus = clock)

Took a look at amazon as newegg doesn't seem to offer 8 gb modules for Kingston hyperx and it costs $430 to get 4x 8gb.... Whereas only $200 for 8x 4gb. What brand'sram did u check for the pricing?

Get Komputerbay - $170 for 4x8gb (32gb package) @ 1600mhz - if you don't plan on overclocking the ram

Wow 12 at idle? Hell I've never even been close to 30 at idle..... Guess its time to add in more fans...

AMD FX8150 anyone who says otherwise has never used it (strictly for botting D3 i could care less about anything else).

Just because you're too poor to buy a real chip, don't try to sell someone else on crap. AMD is garbage, hands down. It's a budget chip - their top of the line chips can't compete with Intel's entry level chips. Just stop.

GPU Nvidia 480 GTX anyone who says it runs hot is an idiot and doesn't know how to set the fan speed manually (it will run at 20-25% the entire time unless you do this) I run mine at 60-75% and the thing never goes above 65C. When I run it at 100% it goes to 49C with 9+ D3 windows going.

The 4xx series of cards DOES run hot. It has a high tdp, and it uses a shit ton of power compared to the 500 series. "Fan speed" has nothing to do with a card using 3x as much power as it's current models.

Unless you're using 90%+ of the intel cpu w/ overclocking - there's no real need to get one vs the amd which is 1/2 of the cost

AMD is great for ppl who don't run 20 accounts at once

What AMD would you suggest for 6 accounts?

amd is alot better for this kind of jobs tbh, even for some serious cpu power, you can get a opteron dual socket system with 8+8 cores for less money than you pay for damn 3930k .. and thats a desktop cpu, dont even look at the price of xeon's.

Passmark is nearly useless. It's not a realistic assessment of price/performance.
Take a look at real world benchmarks.
I was thinking of getting the 8150 but i ended up getting an I5-3570k and I can run 8 bots simultaneously without low FPS. 8gb ram, and a 6870

too poor lol. It has nothing to do with money you're too ignorant to realize building a PC for 1 specific job doesn't mean you need to buy the best hardware to do it. If I were building a PC that I use everyday myself and play games on I would go intel, but for something like this I went AMD.

Oh gosh this is really hard. I am deciding myself between Ivy Bridge (3770k 4x 3.5 intel) or 8120 (8x 3.1), but I don't feel AMD is up to snuff and the ivy bridge doesn't cost a lot more either and it destroys the AMD in many benchmarks I have seen.

So GTX 570, CPU 1155 Intel? Core i7-3770K, 32gb of ram, 60gb sata (500mb read/write) 250gb normal HDD for OS and 3 extra 120x120 fans and I wanted to strive for 16x D3 + bots.

Will that machine do it properly or is it way over the top already? Especially unsure about the GPU, but I will use innerspace.
