I just wanted to take a few moments and say thank you to everyone involved in developing and testing the code on this site. I have been in information technology for years and some of this code is just amazing.

While leveling I use a few key bots/plugins on a daily basis and think that the developers should receive some sort of compensation for their efforts and hard work. If everyone would give a little bit something back then I am sure support would be ten fold and the bots developed would be way more advanced.

This led me to an interesting thought, "what would be an ideal amount to give to a developer?" One an average person thinks of payment the first thought that pops into someones head is I already bought access to honorbuddy, why should I have to tip. Well honorbuddy is a fantastic application in itself but without the hard work of other members the application would not be where it is today. It is my humble opinion that an individual should be compensated for their hard work in one form or another. There I have a important question;

What would be an ideal rate to tip a bot developer for their hard work?

In closing thank you for everyones hard work developing these extensive bots and programs. You really are talented.

well, donation is great, especcially for those people that make the bot super awesome ( instancebuddy, achaeologybuddy, mr fishit) and the CC's that some people make.
the amount is something personal i believe.
I mean if you use it everyday and sell lots of gold etc cause of this bot and want to donate i bet you can donate more than the guy who just levels characters for personal use.

To lashley: CC developers, and plugins etc not made by the HB team don't get any payment for it.
hence the donations

i went with the 20-30$ option. but this spread to my fav coders that i use a lot from.

The core HB and GB products don't really need anymore donations since we've payed for it already.
On the other hand all the CCs, plugins and profiles deserve donations since we use their work and we take it for granted.
We could very well make our own profiles but it would be harder and would take longer.
A thanks on the forums is the very least we could do.

^^ This

I don't get any compensation for coding profiles, debugging, etc. Now, it's not *that hard* to code a profile, but it's a pita to debug it. Now, Quest Order is a pita due to ... well, everything.

CC's and Plugins require more C# competence vs reg profiles which just require minor competence and knowing how to not be a tard (also, they're XML vs C#)

I dont really think profiles should be given donations. More and more, people are figuring out what profiles we use, and call us on it. Profiles should be unique to the user imo (atleast farming ones). AS far as CC's, Plugins, Etc, these deserve donations. The time spent into making them work, is insane. The way I look at it, is, we bought access to use HB/GB. This is a backend. It does things, but it requires others to do their part for it to do anything. Its just like buying a car, and expecting free gas. Yes, the car can get you from point A to point B, but it can't without gas, and you pay for gas. The plugins, cc's, profiles, etc, are our gas.

i think boss should donate to cc writers, profile writers etc. because this bot would not be any were close to were it is without these kind hearted boy that spend 20+hours making a cc(IMO)

You must correct that. This bot would not work without them!

Its like you buying a car and the factory just gives you the raw materials and machinery lol

The devs who write the plugins and profiles should get something, for real!

for me at least, its not how much you donate, its that you donated, $5 or even $1 if fine, its really about showing support.

bossland does support our coders. he knows that the plugins and CC's are making this thing. a while back this was almost a year ago, i sent him a pm and i was like "hey im having to take time from botting my main account to develop these plugins and stuff i was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade my sessions if i had at least 2 i could develop and bot my account" (this was after i released Project Gamma, and Codename: Frozenheart) he was nice enough that he upgraded me to lifetime for free. but you gotta remember before i made those CC's mage botting was horrible, so just having them and keeping them developed was (to the company) well worth the price of lifetime, and he knows that. he wont pay you right out, but if your like "hey i cant develop anymore, can you help me out" if your a good investment and have contributed. he will help you out.

im not saying beg to bossland for free shit, but if you truly think the work you put in is worth it, then it never hurts to ask.

I've only earned around 10usd for my work over ~8 months with donations.

Anyway, the paid plugin system is coming and this should allow devs to earn something for their work based on the popularity of their plugins and custom bots, for example.

The average size donation I receive is $20. But as CNG said it's not the size of the donation it is that people donate. Donations as little as $1, $5 all help. Every cent of donations I receive goes towards the subscription costs of my development accounts.

Of all the software that I've developed, and all the 'stuff' I've give various communities, I've gained a grand total of $45 in donations. However, I don't really care. A "thanks" or similar is more than enough for me. People telling me about bugs, giving me ideas for new features, etc, is really all I can ask for.

Over the years of developing, it's really not about donations, unless you're trying to survive off them. Its more about how releasing stuff makes you feel.

What are donations? I get a lot of PMs from people asking to buy private profiles from me, but Im lucky if I get a +rep for the stuff ive released here.

Like Apoc said saying thanks and helping find bugs and suggesting new features is what helps the most. I can't speak for anybody else, but I develop my CC/plugin because I find it to be fun and I make money at my job, not developing for HB.

So much butt kissing and brown nosing, love it. First and foremost, we already paid for the product. Do you tip windows developers each patch? Do you donate to Blizzard each hotfix? I mean really, this thread wasnt about a "thanks for the work", but more of kissy kissy, sucky sucky.

If everyone on the forum would give a dollar to the like top 10 best contributions(such as profiles, plugins, ccs), 10$ is nothing for one person, but if 5000 people gave 10$ each to someone.. wow. ;)

Sorry to say, but the quality of most contributions here is below any standard that I would regard as deserving and kind of recompense, especially when I constantly see stuff being posted that has either not been tested, not been tested enough, and in some sad cases stuff that does not even pass compilation/validation. Effort, or the display thereof is not, in my opinion, enough.

If you (na?vely) think that donating is going to improve the quality of contributions made, fine. But in a place where talent does not necessarily command respect I'd be very careful.

And I suppose you posted bug reports in the threads in question??

I'm with Apoc, it's not about donations for me, I don't even have a method for people to donate. What it is about is when someone just says thanks for your work, and funnily enough, you get a lot more people complaining about something they want your plugin/cc to do than just saying thanks.

Wow you are here less than a month and your already insulting the people that built the application and the bots that the honorbuddy memebers have not only taken the time to develop but also share with hopes that people will appreciate their work. I encourage you that if you think the work is so poor to develop a bot/application that will benefit the community here and let us have access to it so we can show how much we value your hard work.

Until then don't insult peoples work and the energy that they put forth to help this community thrive.

Yes, I am a total random who bought HonorBuddy one month ago and signed up to the forums to badmouth people. Give me a break.
