I only bot for archeology and farming mobs that drop rare pets or grinding reputation/fishing/leveling. In other words, i dont bot for profit. I actually farm anything i sell on the AH by hand even though i could use HB to do it. In all honestly, im not sure whether botting is ultimately bad or good, i think when you add in chinese farmers that can compete with the bots the question becomes moot. Even if there was no botting its unlikely anything in game would change because of them.
From personal experience, mass botting back during vanilla with wowglider ruined the game for me. It became nearly impossible to farm any substantial amount of gold without investing an undoable amount of time with my schedule. Back then, nodes didnt spawn based on how many people were in the zones, but rather there was a finite amount of stuff that could be gathered because it was based on timers.
Still, im glad i can bot now because if i wasnt i probably wouldnt still be playing. It takes way too much time to grind all that stuff. I would never have even gotten into pvp if it wasnt for botting. I would run in and die in 3 seconds flat without resilience gear and get sick of it before i could even accumulate any gear. Thanks to botting, i was able to get some honor gear and find pvp fun enough to keep doing it, without the bot.
For me, its about playing the game the way i want to in a way thats fun for me.
Kudos for using the bot that way but you may as well just use it to farm too, if you get banned now just doin archa / pet stuff you would have wasted all those hours you were hand farming when you could have been doin other more enjoyable things.
