Ban experiment

All of those who got banned today - were those economy bans? And if yes, did you trade/sell gold ?

means absolutely nothing to anyone. coming to post in anyones thread to inform us that you just got banned 2/2 is useless information. we hardly care. without more information that is pertinent to the threads topic, you are just wasting our time. the op would love to know about bans that are related to his experiment. he would love to have input or criticism on his experiment.

but on another note, his experiment could be laid out a little nicer to help us provide input. he could apply the Scientific Method to streamline and focus his experiment.

a clearly laid out goal and the fewest variables possible leads to a clearer conclusion.

Perhaps, the way I have structured this, it is not so apparent. The purpose of the experiment is to determine the impact of account ban history on the speed of getting banned, reiterated as "If a Blizzard bot scanning tool exists, does it target scan account activity, or mindlessly searches through everything".
Given the limits, both financial (cost of new accounts), availability of computers and accounts with varying ban histories, the data may or may not be representative of the reality.
The result of the experiment should give a conclusion as to whether it makes a difference/is safer, to bot on a new BNet account, or not.

As to the "Procedure Working?" step, once again, the limitations in the amount of data, and the unilateral results that the experiment will provide, it is hard, if not impossible to determine that.


As to the "You should try out different routines/profiles/etc". No. Firstly, its not the point of the experiment, and additional variables will only skew the results. Secondly, for this approach to work, one would have to know how blizzard detects bots, and relative to that organize the majority of profiles in major groups defined by a specific condition and its relation to the aforementioned method. Given that HB don't release, whether or not they know it, how it was detected, it would be a pointless experiment without that information.

I had a chat with a GM 2 days ago because of my accs got banned after just a few hours of playing, He told me they scan my computer and looked up my ip on each acc that i had running. Told the date and time my computer were running my wow accs and that the computer were running from the same spot al the time and so on. I think this is old news that im telling you now. Told me to remove any programe that monitors my acc automaticly or i would be hammered again.
 
you had a chat with a gm? really? how the fuk do you rate a chat with a gm?

they have removed almost any chance of ever speaking to an actual human, im really curious.
we know they monitor ip and location of wow because they can tell if you have been hacked from another ip. but what does that tell us about botting? maybe two wows running from the same ip? might suggest a bot. but that can be handled swiftly with a proxy/vpn. and we know from actual ban reports that hasnt stopped blizz from banning. also, 2 wows running from the same ip wouldnt explain why one account is banned while another is not. the only thing i can image would be using this evidence in an internal investigation to find actual evidence for a ban. but that is only one spoke in the wheel.

im curious as to what this means. a program that monitors your wow account? that doesnt seem like terminology you would expect from a gm. and its hardly in line with what people were reporting when we could actually speak to a human gm.

Now that I come to think of it, I havent had a chat with a GM in more than 2 expansions...

Upd. Still no ban.
P.S. If I get them banned before the sale ends, I will try to redo the experiment mixing the accounts and IPs, but not changing them.

it was in a chat in live chat with a GM, a long and good chat were we talked about everything. Im just tellin you what this person told me. Far as i know nothing of this is really new to HB i believe.
 
there's a bunch of bans today. All seem to be for farming...

So I guess if they aren't getting us during injection, they can detect us through our main source of income.
 
Seems like they are following the money - like they do with criminal drug dealers.
Which is - the smartest way to get the gold-sellers tbh, meaning they find the "safe-havens" of guildbanks and get rid of the whole "organization".
I've botted the past days, but only with lvl'ing, so my account has survived.

I can vouch for this as well. Lvling 1-110 and no ban. currently 101 and its been running almost 24/7.

TBH, since Blizzard now sells gold for money, it would be logical for them to target the "underground" gold market in priority since it litteraly means a loss of revenue for them since there is a strong chance that one would buy a token if there was no alternative market for gold. In a way, gold farmers are also hurting the "casual botters" because they draw attention towards HB with their reckless farming. Which in the end, means getting hit by the ban hammer. I'm not saying that botters who dont abuse economy are not to blame tough. But gold farming is really what brings heat towards us.

That is your opinion. My opinion is that CR is what brought the heat on gold farmers.

Bots were a lesser concern before CR. Banwaves where unheard of. Until those folks with less skill pushing buttons decided they wanted to deceive themselves and every person that plays with or against them by pretending they know how to play. People started finding up bots in arenas and bots in raiding. QQ in the forums, and you know the outcome.

Anyhow, I think that both Gold farmers and Routine users are equally guilty. It's casuals-routine users who (normally) think that they are "less guilty". It might be a question of maturity, though.
 
I got banned like 6 months ago a week after i bought gold.

Its 100% the way they detect people, they go for the real buyers who buys gold and then they follow the money backwards to the botnet.
I only got a tempban for buying, i have never exploited the AH in any how, never been successfull in farming gold or anything. So ive just bought gold to get "mounts/gear" etc.

I can tell you right now what did HB in. It's the idiots that run BGs with a full 10man team and then post videos on youtube for everyone to see. How stupid is that? Hey I am doing something I am not supposed to so I am going to make video evidence. Retarded. That was back in WoD prior to the ban waves that I saw this. It caught the attention of alot of PvPers and you know how whiny PvPers are. So they pitched their tantrum and Blizz listened. Ever since then and the lawsuit it's been all out war on HB. I find it entertaining myself. I still casual bot just cause I say POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

Did he tell you about how HB was detected and when they plan to launch the next detection? Seems maybe you may have wasted a great opportunity to ask about what limitations they have or possibly if the GM knew of any holes they had that we could use and never get banned. Hey wait how about asking how we can get accounts unbanned 100% of the time.

Sorry, guess you can tell I am not buying the whole GM spilling the beans of stuff thing. It's really hard to get to GMs now. I mean really really hard and it's unthinkable that they would sit there and tell you anything at all that valuable let alone give you tips on how to protect your account.

As I and others have said just using the same IP does not get you banned. They look at a plethora of data and it's when all the cards align do you get the hammer dropped on you. I personally have botted while playing my main and got my bot suspended and the main was left alone. This was a banwave time. So I can say with 100% certainty just the IP address alone won't get you banned. Not even the IP address and Mac address and name of your first born.

The last time I spoke with a GM was maybe 3 years ago now. Not sure but it's generally not a long conversation. More like F you and goodbye. In the early days yes, I can say I have had 4 and 5 email exchanges with a GM when I was able to unban accounts but the game has changed a lot since then.
