Authentication Issues Discussion [7/26/2010]

why aren`t there tuts for wireless!!!

You would use the same methods, depending on how you're connected to the internet. Clone the MAC address of the router to change it, release/renew the address, cycle the power of the modem and router. .and you're all set. Wireless networks still use MAC and IP -- the same as wired networks. Any other tweaks can be changed from the backend of your router.

@Crazy00eyes

If you're not paying for a static ip, chances are you don't have one. :P use the method described. Clone the MAC address, release/renew, cycle the modem and router (the latter must absolutely be done for those using cable internet).

So basically we have to fix the problem by paying for a proxy rather than fix the issue on the server end ?

The ISP should generally block IP's on a packet filtering basis. They shouldn't generally just do a mass ban of IP's. Each and every single hit that comes through the authentication server that's not a normal packet routing through will be blocked by the ISP.

I get the router/modem power cycling thing, but I have no idea what a MAC address is or how to clone, release, or renew it.

Im in the same boat as everyone else. Ive done everything I can do and still no Auth.

At first I thought it was a bit amuzing the panic that went around. Now its like if my IP got banned and there is nothing I can do about it (since I cant change my IP or Mac) and im not interested in MAC spoffing, proxies, buying new router/modem, etc etc.... this is really stupid.

If you have a linksys router simply use your web browser and goto 192.168.1.1

From there your password should be admin, if not then you changed it at some point. But no matter what here is the chance to change your password to secure your router.

Go to the status page of your router and you should be able to release renew. This however does no good anyway if you have a set IP.

Just take you few mins to change your static IP address with just few simple step.

You need this http://www.technitium.com/
Just change the mac address after you download, shut down your computer and modem.
You got a new IP address after.

But what you CAN do, from that point is to find the MAC address cloning options on your router and click the button that says "Clone my PC's MAC address" or whatever, click it. Then power cycle BOTH your modem and router, then open a command prompt by going to Start -> Run then type 'cmd'. Once it opens up, type "ipconfig /release" when that completes, type "ipconfig /renew" .. when that completes, you should be able to connect.

I have been unconnectable since last night around 10pm. I just did the MAC cloning thing and power cycled my modem, then released/renewed my IP and I'm up botting again.

I understand that you shouldn't have to do that, and it should be fixed on the server end. And in fact, it WILL be fixed on their end, eventually - when the ISP gets around to unbanning everyone's IPs. But if you are in a pinch and want to bot right away, the MAC address clone is the next best thing (That works).

I've already tried resetting my IP via router reset, I've done everything. I dont have a dynamic IP. I haven't been able to bot for almost 3 days now.

Cry more. Try reading a few suggestions posted here and fix it.

im every bit as frustrated has him.

And not everyone can reset anything. Im at work right now and if I change anything there will be 200k customers without access to their MLS. The true fix is for the damn ISP to fix itself.

Try using one of the free VPN services posted in the thread that have also seemed to have resolved the issue.

There is nothing that the HB team can do about it, its up to the ISP to unban all the clients - I'm sure its something that is timed, so it should come soon. It's a DDoS attack and it's unpredictable. You can't just say "Hey! Stop attacking our servers for a few minutes so our customers can log in!!"
