You look at your statistics for kills before the grind then after, and when you subtract the two numbers that will give you the amount of kills... I think thats how you do it. At least thats how I do it.
 
These things can't be sold on my server, everyone laughs at me and tells me to go to hell lol.

Sold it for a few hundred gold, took me 40 hours meh, not worth it.

Few hundred????? I sell captured fireflies for 3k and I can get up to 5 a night.
 
The bird goes for 9-10k and the Firefly for 3-4k on my server :)
 
9k kills so far no bird, 1epic and 1blue

EDIT: Got it after 8.5k kills!

seems like the lootfilter someone here gave doesnt work.. Yes, i've used it before and i know how to install. Anyone can give us a newer version?
 
1k kills in and no drop yet. Is there a updated mesh that don't fall in the water yet?
 
Not that I've found scoboose. Im up to about 5.5k kills with no bird.
 
I know there is a guide or two on this site. Just use search.
