XP/hr on hardcore

So obviously you shouldn't bot on hardcore for a number of reasons, but well... some of us do.

What I've been doing is keeping a "main" character that I keep all my good stuff on and actually play manually, and an alt of the same class with less perfect gear to run rifts and XP. This way the alt is somewhat "disposable"

Well the first few days went great, I was running T4's, so I decided to put some of my rarer gear on him (taskers, double unity setup) since he was looking like he wasn't gonna die - well, I made the mistake of running zerg t2 bounties on him and he died to an elite Mallet Lord pack. Lesson learned.

Question is, what have others done for botting on hardcore? I'm currently on yet another alt - An M6 demon hunter with Awareness, a Beckon Sail (cast smokescreen instead of death) and over 16 million toughness. I've got him running T4 rifts, but I'm curious if there's a safer/better method out for xp on hardcore.

What have other folks been doing?

10 mil toughness, 30k regen, arcane immunity t1, i think i get around 350 xp/hr or so.
just got the m6, should try and run now.
still no double unity. may be can run t2 then! should hit 600 mil xp/hr

I play HC, why do anything over T1 with the bot? He's going to dumb out now and then. With a DH the only way to go is M6, you get the entire army of pets (helps when u dumb out). Why would you zerg anything in HC? Don't. Don't bother with a second toon, just swap out your "ultra uber gear" for some toughness before botting (it's only T1). The unity idea is great, but without an uber merc, he'll actually drag u down, even with the cannot die thingy, he sucks life if he's not incredibly defensive himself. You turn into a trash killer without a soj or some sort of +elite damage.. Just my take..
Hope this helps
peace

Yeah I'm running T4's on my new alt now with about 16 mil toughness; getting 1.4 bil xp per hour. Not too bad I suppose, but I'm uncertain on how safe it really is. Made it through his first night lol. What would be cool, would be some type of plugin that hit "Escape" immediately after an Awareness proc, and texted me or something. =P then maybe I could up the anti a bit lol

And yes, zerging was dumb on my part and I wasn't really thinking about it at the time. Just was like, hey, I need keys, t4 rifts have been fine all week, t2 bounties should be fine too.... NOPE lol

I'm not really sure about what you mean about the follower "dragging you down" without defensive gear. If you both have unity and he has the "Follower cannot die" relic, then you take half the damage, end of story lol.

it doesn't work like that, if awareness is going to proc, you can be sure, the char is mostly going to die, because its in a really bad situation.

He is saying that, if your follower has low toughness and takes 1M dmg. The unity ring gives half to you and half to your follower.

If you are too concerned with your HC, then use a tough toon to level up (Sader) or dont bot at HC at all.
If you really would like to push your luck, then.
Boon of hoarder
Gold Wrap
Kymbos Gold
Optional Averice Band

I figured that was what he was saying, but it didn't make sense because that's not correct. If you use the "follower cannot die" relic, toughness on him becomes useless. He is invincible, and takes no damage, therefore double unity makes you take half damage.

and I'm not super concerned about dying, I am just trying to figure out the most efficient setup with the least chance of dying. I'm already using an alt to do it, so if it dies it's not the end of the world, but obviously not ideal either. I could use a crusader or something instead, but I use a demon hunter so that I get demon hunter loot that I can then use on my main demon hunter.

Your follower should have no vit or life% on items, this way it wont take any dmg to "drag u down".

In my experience w/ dh, crusader, and monk hc botting I'd say the monk is your best bet. Mine was running t6 no problem until either db hiccuped and crashed or d3 disconnected (unsure as I woke up to find him dead and d3 logged out.)

Bot mother runs until 70, chests ( you can make insanely good chest "speccs" and gear sets after 2.1) after that in order to get some gear. After that I usually bot t1 bounties/rifts (still do chests for legendary before ghom) and do some Grifts to get any necessary gems. If you by any chance find a poison immunity you're in luck, then you just get decentish toughness (seen this done around 7mill easy with unity), solid damage and start botting ghom at as high torment as possible. Getting about 1.8 billion xp per hour as a pet doc on t6.

Edit: With good enough gear some classes can do ghom just fine without the neck as well.

It's sad but true, Ghom T6 still beats out all other XP runs for us HCs.

Thanks. I did all this to begin with; I botted chests to get gear at first etc. My main is pretty damn decked out (currently sitting around #120 or so on hardcore g rift leaderboards) so I'm using an alt DH to get XP. I wasn't sure if Ghom was still worthwhile or not, so that's interesting to hear... I may have to give that a shot. I've been doing T4 rifts and getting just over a billion an hour. Is there a particular script you recommend for Ghom?

I've been using the Three Musketeers ghom profile - but I think there's options to that if you'd prefer. Shouldn't be too hard to find one, ghom been around for a long time ^^
