Has anyone attempted to run WoW in a VMWare instance? Had any luck with it?

I did look into this, as far as I could find VMWare didn't have the 3d rendoring available to it to run games like Wow.

The latest version of VMWare workstation supports 3D, and wow will open and run inside the vm.

I used VMWare Workstation 7 and it worked fine. The graphics card I had in the machine was pretty terrible so it wasnt great, but it worked and HB had no issues with it.

same here - i think you need VM Workstation 6.5 or newer to get a '3D' graphics driver to support running WoW.

Nice. I've got 7.3. Gonna try this out tonight. Anyone have any tips to maximizing the number of instances running on a single box?

7.3 - are you sure its Workstation? I believe they are only up to 7.1. Regardless, I run 3 OS instances, each with 1 proc and 640 MB RAM configured. I run a single 'low resource' WoW in each running on a stripped down Win XP. That takes about 25% of my PC's CPU and memory to keep up.

Whoop! It's 7.1.3. I've got it running in a guest OS now. Good stuff. :)
