Windows 7 VS 8 for running bot

I'm at work right now so I can't answer all your questions at the moment, but i'll answer the ones I know of the top of my head for now:

PC1
Windows 7 64-bit - i7-920 stock (for now) with a radeon 5770
Run 2-3 bots at a time (mostly 2)

PC2
Windows 8 64-bit - i7-950 OC'd to 4.06 with 2 gtx 560tis in SLI
Run 1-3 bots at a time (mostly just 1)

I don't disable anything (im lazy)

I can check all the #s and %s for you MAYBE later, if not tomorrow for sure. I'm working a double today so won't have much time when I get home.

The reason I run more bots on the weaker build is because I built it strictly for botting with leftover parts. My main comp (PC2) when I bot on it I am usually on my main accounts and don't do it to often because they are the mains and i dont want to lose them.

Also, I'll let you know, I like windows 7 more but thats do to being used to it. The more I use windows 8 the more it grows on me but it is a pain at the start.

Hi,
Thanks all for help, just wanted to update you all on results i got.
As i said my Windows 7 VMs use around 500mb ram for windows itself, i decided to try Windows 8, i have done some windows optimizations recommended by VMware but there is a lot more to do (list has over a hundred optimizations), so i should get atleast few percents better result in the end.

note, for now this is just test, i am not yet running any live bots on windows 8 so i can't give you any numbers on windows+WOW+HB memory usage:

- VMWARE workstation 9
- windows 8 professional 32bit (uses less memory)
- VM has 1 core (important since when you have more than one core some parts of kernel are present in multiple copies/memory usage is higher)
- VM has 1024MB memory assigned
- VM has 30GB disk, but windows 8 installation uses only 5.5GB
- Windows swap file is turned of in order to stop windows from cheating by using hard disk

out of those 1024MB memory
- 254MB used by windows (out of that 33MB used by windows explorer, i plan to find some lightweight alternative like one for windows 7 i found)
- 763MB available
- 0 MB committed
- 109 MB cached
- paged pool 51 MB
- nonpaged pool 41 MB
- VMWARE is reporting 5 IOPS used, this is a bit higher than windows 7 ( 3 IOPS) but as i said i did not finish whole optimization process

so yes uses less ram than windows 7, and this is with DWM enabled, didn't find way to disable it like on windows 7

Cheers,
Bloodmarks

Very strange Black,
do you use 32bit or 64bit version?
also did you install VMWARE tools?
mine uses between 400MB and 500MB (closer to 500MB) without anything else started

can you give me list of services that are not disabled on your windows so i can compare with mine?

ah now i see, was too close to image so didn't notice text this CleanMem is possible "problem" i don't use it, i will have to check more benchmarks with it to make sure it is not doing something bad like use more CPU or interfere with VMWARE memory deduplication/sharing between virtual machines, i hope it works similar on windows 8 also :)
