Sorry, posted this in the wrong sub-forum, bans is for ban reports only apparently!

Seems there has been little speaking about the "wave" by official DB devs. A forum mod is still botting but it's undeniable that it was a wave and not just bad luck. I dont expect a refund or anything but, I'd like to know if the product failed its "tripwire" check, or if they have some info on what exactly happened.

They are obviously more technical then us. Even a non-aggressive "sorry" to the paid DB community would be nice. We do pay for the product after all =P

Which was responded to by:

Hawker post here: http://www.thebuddyforum.com/demonbu...ban-waves.html

Code:
Don't panic.

If you see over 1000 ban reports in a one day period, you are looking at a banwave. Less than that, its bad luck. Please do not make posts with "banwave" in the title. If there is an issue, our tripwire will have killed all connected bots and we will have posted what information we have.

There are thousands of Demonbuddy users and tens of millions of Diablo players so the single biggest factor in getting banned is random bad luck. Please keep that in mind when you see people say that they bot 24/7 for weeks at a time and have no bans. They might be lucky. Please also keep it in mind when you see someone say they botted 10 minutes and got banned. They might have been unlucky. Other factors like being reported, or having used hacks, or abused the RMAH may be present but the single biggest thing that causes a ban is random bad luck.

We do want people to report bans and if you have been banned, we are sorry for your loss. Please use this form: [Form] DemonBuddy Suspension/Ban form

I understand but 200+ people IS a wave. It's just not a wave that has banned every bot. IMO banning everyone at one time for blizzard would be a nightmare on the economy, and well as nightmare for all the payment processing they have to do with the RMAH.

Additionally, i'd prefer not just a sticky response but an actual post as to the the event. I know i'm not alone.

Hope the general section is the correct place to post a nicely formatted discussion without it being closed =)

Its not a ban wave, its just alot of reports and flagged account, getting banned at the same time.
It has nothing to do with DB, its just bad luck and stuped move from botters and i dont think it has anything to do with RMAH.
I have done over 400Euro from RMAH and bilions of gold from GMAH.

Awesome, thanks for your response.

It did bot 24/7 so it's totally possible that it was just a batch of reports. I also used a C# chatbot to automate talking to some friends, so im pretty sure its not based of of chat activity.

I made 300+ US before banned, and have 250mil to rebuild with. This thread is not about being bitter, just about respect to the community =)

^^This.

there's a lot of people new to botting who haven't been around since the good ol'days of "oh shit the bot got detected by warden, and now EVERYONE is screwed" so they have no idea what a banwave actually consists of, and that's why we have a lot of people throwing the term around like its candy. what we're seeing aren't banwaves. its just gm's doing their jobs and waiting until Tuesday to flush the system when no ones using it rather then do them one by one, thats all there is too it.

Great, so it's the official word of the devs then:

"We believe this was a just a large batch of reports. We have looked into the matter, and we have no technical evidence of detection. Sorry to all for the bad day"

Thanks for replying CodenameG

how can you explain why only DB users been ban this time ? How can Blizzard differentiate DB users with other bot users ? THe only way to answer this is DB somewhat detected but not by Warden but something by server side. I also notice since after patch 1.04 DB update , there are a lot of error with " Access violation " thingy around. I am not saying the other bot doesn't have ban before. The previous ban hammer , they also have a few user got banned but not big and DB does too. But this time DB users is the main target so I am skeptical about the coding for the latest DB version.

CodenameG isent a dev, hes a mod.
And if it was a warden detection alot more ppl would have been banned, not just a few %.
It looks better for blizzard if they release sometime "We banned 1000 accounts for botting" then if they write everday, "we banned 2 ppl today for botting" etc..
Gives the none botting community hope, that they ban alot of ppl and do there work.

Its not only DB users, ofcourse you see alot of DB users, since this is the buddy forum and open for everone, so ppl talkeing about it.
Alot of ppl got banned and DIDENT use DB.
To small % got banned for it being a detection in DB, you would see alot more ppl banned else.

i wouldn't call it official, but basically yea.

they could be doing stuff server side, but because its server side and not in the client theres no way for us to know exactly what those limits are or would be. another possibility is they could be using a heatmap like function over a certain number of games, and using that to catch the 100 bots running the same profile.
Halo 3 Heatmap - Halo Wiki

but again its all server side, so theres no way of knowing and all theory. all we know for sure is, its not software detection, or everyone would be banned dosnt matter if you botted for 2 seconds or 2 months, if it was detection you would be banned.

3500(approx) forum registrants atm. Current poll of banned users at 289. Lets just use these numbers for a sec, not taking into account not EVERYONE has a forum accnt and not EVERYONE voted on the poll. So they could be skewed either way =)

Close to 8.2% of the userbase isn't a lot?

edited for dyslexia... 228 on banned poll = 6.5%

You don't need to argue if it is a ban wave or not a ban wave.

You are all correct.

A ban wave can be as small as 10 or 10000000. You decide if it is a ban wave.

The veterans will say it is 'not' but that is because they have seen bigger.

If 200 is the biggest you have seen and you want to call it a ban wave - you are not wrong.

Awesome, thanks. The heatwave stuff is cool technology. God forbid they ever find a way to detect directX injection without leaving the blizzard process space!

If you want you can close the thread now.

look, they are paying a lot of money for lawyers to fight us in court, they aren't going to do anything to us, because they already decided to fire some programmers to pay and overpaid lawyer to fly to Germany and drink beers with bossland.
