Why is the Demonbuddy team forcing plugin writers to change their code?

Hi it is Gardetto's,

I am a member of CIGGARC and a profile writer. I was the main author of the BigRed run that was popular. The last few weeks I have been working on a new profile that was giving me the best IPH and Exp/hr compared to any other profile I tried. I have been pre-releasing copies of it on IRC. It was a very custom and random run that I was just getting to release. A lot of the new code was based on the latest Dev Trinity. rrrix was kind of enough to improve a number of functions including ExploreDungeon. But all that stopped today when I found that the DB team has forced rrrix to remove all weapon swapping functions for monks due to it being an 'exploit'. Once 1.07 hits Weapon Swapping will pretty much be over anyway so why force rrrix to remove it now?

I currently use WeaponSwap on all my bots because it is cost effective and works well. I knew eventually I would have to re-gear my bots for 1.07 but now I am forced with a choice. Either re-gear all my bots or stop work on my new profile Gardetto's Revenge. I am opting to stop work on it. Because what's the point of releasing a profile if I have to force everyone else using a monk bot to upgrade to Trinity that will make them be less productive. What is the point to working on a profile that I can't even run myself? Their is none.

Weapon Swapping has been going on for quite some time and will even be coming to end in a few weeks. Why now with this false morality of being against an 'exploit'? What the fuck is Demonbuddy if not an exploit? It is a very poor idea to run a company that RELIES on user submitted work to subjugate users to your false morality and crush ingenuity. I for one will not accept it.

so you are mad that they are protecting people from using an exploit that can increase their chances to getting banned? just trying to grasp everything you said.

I'm pretty sure they can argue 37 mil diff ways around the legality of their "bot" being an "exploit" in court. Monk swap however is 100% an exploit of game mechanics, and as harm said above me ... trying to also protect its users.

They are already walking a fine line so I can understand this somewhat.

it's being removed in the next update anyway, why on earth does it matter?
also stop being a little bitch, nobody is going to care if you refuse to release your profile in some kind of strange boycott attempt

They probably want to have Trinity working so they can release a same-day 1.07 update to DB. By the way, there are a finite number of zones and an even smaller number of "high density" zones in Act 3, there are only so many ways you can arrange them and dangling a "super" profile with maximum IPH and EXP over our heads is BS when it's probably just Alkaizer + Skycrown.

Bullshit.
This is SMART use of game mechanics, it has been out since MARCH.
This isn't new, this has been addressed by blizzard multiple times - they know about it and decided to do NOTHING - meaning it's OK.

An exploit would be like Wizards had, where you cast Teleport + Archon same time and this puts you in God Mode for the whole game.
Or when a barb does Furious Charge into a cut-scene and enters a mode in which he deals dmg just by passing near a monster.

But w/e, they decided it's an exploit? Ok, gratz, it took some time - but why not post anything about it? tell anyone something?
Why do people need to enter the forums and start looking for threads that no longer exist? why do my threads get deleted without any heads up or any notice???

A. it matters because it isn't patched and people like using it atm.
B. no idea what you have done to contribute here, so until anything of the such appears - It's sometimes better to just stfu.

These were my main thoughts also. The deleting of posts and offering no reason why. That they waited so long to address Weapon Swapping in DB and when they do address it all they did was pull everything under the rug without a reason why. Why now? If they would of said no use of Weapon Swapping a long time ago it would not be costing me money. I now have to spend gold on bots to regear them. These bots could of been banned before 1.07. Now I am forced to spend gold which translates into money directly out of my pocket. Demonbuddy's team careless actions is costing me money.

I have spent many hours working on my custom profile. When I say custom I mean I personally mapped the random dungeons of Keep 3, Keep 2, Crater 2, and Crater 1. It takes a lot of time to find all the different variations of every single dungeon. That is why no one has done it before. I have always released my code for free. I enjoy writing creative profiles that helps the DB community. But to have actions that directly affect my time and money without a reason leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. It takes all the joy out of working on Demonbuddy.

Hi All,

I would like to make it clear and plain - as the maintainer of the Trinity plugin it was my CHOICE and mine alone to remove the WeaponSwap feature from the development code. I was in no way forced, coerced, convinced, or even obligated to remove or modify this functionality. It was suggested to me that it's a good idea to avoid "exploitative" functionality in the future, but no one told me to "remove weaponswap". No member of the Bossland/Demonbuddy staff handed an ultimatum or an order.

Personally as a business owner myself and having first-hand experience of legal problems, I can relate to the stance the Bossland team takes with regards to any possible vector for making the ongoing legal case with Blizz any worse - I personally would like to see DB/Bossland have a long and prosperous future.

I removed this functionality from the development branch out of my own volition. It's both a blessing and a curse being a maintainer of a system used by so many, I have the opportunity to simultaneously please and piss off the user base.

So, if you are going to blame or flame anyone, feel free to aim it at me.

Also, this functionality will remain in previous versions of Trinity, it is not retroactive.

cheers,

rrrix
