Web-Site Suggestion for Botting Safety, Protecting Your Investors.

As someone who really enjoys the work that our developers here do, I would like to make a suggestion to keep everyone here at TheBuddyForum safer from bans!

I believe that it would be in the interest of everyone here to disable links to EVERY Blizzard owned web-site.

Why?

Everytime someone clicks a link to a build from this web-site they are subjecting themselves to a red-flag from Blizzard. While this red-flag may not be something they directly look at, it is something that could very easily give away the fact that you bot.

When you click a link from one web-site to another, the destination web-site is sent a request from your web browser along with packets telling the destination web-site where you clicked the link from. In other words, if someone posts a build on these forums, and you click it, you are taken to the build and then Blizzard receives a packet stating that you navigated towards that link from this web-site.

How does that affect me as a botter?

If you're botting under the same IP as where you're using your web-browser, which I guarantee 99% of the people here are, then everytime you navigate to a Blizzard web-site from a link here, you're telling Blizzard, "Hey, I'm botting on this IP address, I bet you can't find out what account I'm using too!"

What can I do, as a botter, if this is not implemented to protect myself or others?

You can protect yourself by not clicking on links that are directly to a Blizzard web-site or simply copying links and pasting them into your browser instead of clicking them!

You can download a referrer blocker for your browser. For Chrome users: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/referer-control/hnkcfpcejkafcihlgbojoidoihckciin?hl=en

You can help protect others by removing the http:// from the beginning of your links so people are forced to copy and paste them into their own web-browsers.
You can also use TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a tiny URL to redirect people from tinyurl, so all Blizzard sees when they click on that link is that tinyurl directed them to the web-page.

WARNING Do NOT click on tinyurl links from people you do not trust, tiny URL could be redirecting you to unsafe phishing web-sites.

If you think this is a good idea please let the developers, moderators and web-site owners know by replying to this thread. Take the extra few moments to reply, because if this post does not receive any support, it will never happen! Let's all help the developers not only keep paying customers, but gain more customers by even further reducing the risk of bans. What bot would you buy? The one that takes angles just inside of it's program? Or one that follows all angles and protects their users not only with the running program, but when they utilize their forums as well?

use an addon for your browser to disable referrer sending, simple

Really good to see the community that doesn't understand simple networking replies to threads they do not understand.

Yes, this is also something that I did forget to mention. But for those who don't know and don't read, this would be a solution to protect them.

Arrogance at its worst. Not agreeing with you does not mean people do not understand what you said. You make assumptions and created this "informative" thread in order to help people. Should have stopped there instead of insulting people.

While what you stated is certainly possible, it is unlikely that it would be something Blizzard considers worth spending time on (my assumption mind you) since its not an exact science. There will be many cases of dynamic IPs and shared web locations where this would provide false correlations to battle.net accounts. So with all due respect, don't assume that you're the only one capable of reasoning because it will not get you anywhere.

It is always good to be vigilant when it comes to avoiding unnecessary attention whilst botting so thumbs up for the contribution, just hold back with the attitude.

I honesty don't believe blizzard would do this...

To many what ifs as to why a person could be at this site, Whilst alot of people are botters, Alot are not.. Hell blizzard them self patrol these forums, looking for people that have posted identifiably information on this site...

You wouldn't believe the amount of people that post screen shots on the Honor buddy site of where the bot got stuck with out removing there details.

You make a valid point, however if Blizzard wanted to end botting it would be done, it isn't, they don't.

So why did they shut glider down ? one of the most successful botting programs ever.. (HB prob past it now, but at the time it was flawless).. And PVPtool.. Not the bot out there.. but non the less Blizzard shut them down.

I don't know. Do you? I can make more assumptions or assertions... lol...

peace

This is very true, however, it wouldn't be difficult to automatically tag an account coming from a specific IP that is currently logged into battle.net.

IP X comes from this website and is logged into account A. The account is tagged.
IP X changes to IP Y and comes from this web-site and is again logged into account A.

This could cause an automatic flag from quite easily written piece of software that tracks web traffic.

I do apologize to those before me, and thank you for calling me out on my own stupidity.

People post screenshots of their DemonBuddy with their account name in the header constantly.

You make a valid point, however if Blizzard wanted to end botting it would be done, it isn't, they don't.

Well, considering that people would probably re buy their accounts, if they ban 10,000 people and 10% buy a new copy of each game, they make $60,000.

Probably the most state-the-obvious thread I've read on this forum. Thanks OP now I won't get banned!

Prob due to how many reports they had and people QQ'in and once they did that they soon noticed a massive decline in numbers

they no botters pay for their game and so on, it only hurts them when they ban folk.

While it might be to you, think about the amount of people who use the internet who are ignorant to the way it works. All they know is clicking blue opens a new web page!
