VMware

I'm having issues getting a stable VM with ArcheAge running inside of it. After launching the game anywhere from instantly to an hour later the VM will crash with the process vmware-vmx.exe becoming unresponsive and needing to be closed manually. The VM itself will freeze completely and if the mouse is locked into the VM a hard reboot is needed.

Currently I'm using a Windows 7 64bit fresh install with Directx and Net framework 4.5.1 as the only post setup installs. This is inside VMware workstation 10 with the following additions to the VMX file.

Code:
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "true"
isolation.tools.getPtrLocation.disable = "true"
isolation.tools.setPtrLocation.disable = "true"
isolation.tools.setVersion.disable = "true"
isolation.tools.getVersion.disable = "true"
monitor_control.disable_directexec = "true"

and changes to the registry's display driver records at
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000

Has anyone had success running in a VM? What tweaks worked for you?

I can get it to launch but the issue I have is VMware locks up after about 30 seconds of the game running. Any ideas?

Thanks.

having the same issue, it just freeze the whole window when using vmware to play archeage

Mine is also closing down on the green splash screen halfway through loading.

Receiving an Error: "The memory could not be "read" Virtual Memory Usage: 213Mb cannot initialize Symbol Engine! "

Gonna try a redownload of the game instead of copy pasta.

Hi there,

For me it'w working in Vmware, I can login in the game, move around and the bot is working.
However, it's really going frame by frame.

I'm using Workstation 10, Accelerate 3D Graphic is one, 3 GB of memory and 2 processor assigned.

I'm asking, how do you guy's get the game moving on Vmware, not frame by frame?

EDIT: Found the issue, I had not installed the VMware Tools, so I had the old Windows drivers.
After updating I had to change the registry as stated on second page of this post ! All worked and it's smooth running now :)

I'll try with workstation 10 Argh did all the changes and now on workstation 10 its detecting maybe its the VMWare tools.

- Removed the tools got to the splash screen this time back to old problem of closing down while on splash screen halfway through load.

I am running into the same issue with my VM locking up after 15 seconds in game. I have modified the config file and the registry so I could get past hackshield. I noticed that in the 15 seconds that I can "play", the mouse is EXTREMELY wonky when I try to mouse look. I have VMware Tools installed so I didn't think that would be the problem.

My rig should be more than fine. GTX 770, 12gb memory, and an i-7 processor. I am only assigning the VM 4gb and 2 cores when other people say they can get their AA to run on a VM with 2gb and 1 core. Any ideas?

Do you have to download Archeage on the VM machine to run from VM or is there a way to access it from my regular pc files?

I just downloaded it again for the VM.

You can start ArcheAge in VMWare just fine with the official launcher, infact you have to be able to do that to update the game properly,

there's just a couple of things you need to do, tested in Windows 7 environment on VMWare:

1. create a file called "hackshieldsucks.reg" with this content:
--- snip cut below this line ---
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000]
"DriverDesc"="Generic Driver"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings]
"Device Description"="Generic Driver"
----- snip cut before this line ----

Then you just rightclick it and select "read data into registry" or whatever it says, double click may work too

2. Edit the .vmx file for your virtual machine (On Mac OSX, you just click the virtual machine and "show package contents", on windows vmware its just in the folder for your VM. and add this at the bottom:
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "true"
isolation.tools.getPtrLocation.disable = "true"
isolation.tools.setPtrLocation.disable = "true"
isolation.tools.setVersion.disable = "true"
isolation.tools.getVersion.disable = "true"
monitor_control.disable_directexec = "true"

Reboot the virtual machine, and presto, no more problems with hackshield freaking out :)

run the .Reg file on the VM or on the regular Desktop?

IN VM . I got it.

The edits that you add to the .vmx file prevent VMware tools from working. I've found the following to work with archeage.

1. Use VMware workstation tech preview 2014
2. Extract the drivers from VMware tools without installing/running them and then update the drivers manually in device manager for the display adapter.

This did not work for me. When I attempt to update the display driver, it says it is already up to date. Do I NEED to use the tech preview or can I keep using my Workstation version 10? Basically I can get all the way to log in and then 10 seconds in game, the VM display freezes. I know keyboard commands still work because I can type /invite <name> and it invites the character to a group.

Supposedly the tool extracted drivers are already updated? I downloaded from: http://packages.vmware.com/tools/esx/latest/windows/index.html

Do you know how to solve the crazy mouse look thing?

VMware KB: Mouse movement is not smooth in a hosted virtual machine

There is mouse mode setting in VMWare specifically for games, by default it's set to automatic. However for me I had to set it to Always and everything worked flawlessly after that.

To set the mouse mode:
Go to Edit > Preferences from the VMware Workstation user interface.
Click the Input tab.
From the Optimize mouse for games dropdown menu, choose Always.

Note: You need to click back in the virtual machine for your mouse to be recognized. Hereafter, you need to press Ctrl+Alt to release your mouse from the virtual machine and you need to click in the virtual machine to return your mouse to the virtual machine.

If choosing Always from the Optimize mouse for games dropdown does not resolve the issue, choose Never from the dropdown instead.

can someone confirm or deny if this works in vmware workstation 10.0.0 build 1295980 or VMware workstation tech preview 2014 ?, tried both and none works for me

could somebody simply upload to torrent or mega their working virtual machine? (without archeage files ), yeah I know it might be asking alot depending on your internet connection xD

I'm confused with vmware tools, are they necessary for this to work?, when I try to install them they tell me they should be run only on a Virtual Machine

in my case when I hit the red play button on glyph it turns grey for like 2-3 seconds and then goes back to red again, hackshield doesn't even seem to launch

OKAY!

After HOURS of research and tweaking with things I have been successfully able to fix my personal errors where I see some people have been having problems like myself. HERE IS A FEW EXTRA STEPS!

Install your VMware Tools the FIRST THING YOU DO!

NEXT FOLLOW OUTs INSTRUCTIONS TO THE KEY

Hi guys.
If you want to run AA on VMWARE, you need:
1) disable VM.
2) edit VM .vmx file:

3) enable VM. Open regedit. After this you need to find ALL strings "VMware SVGA 3D" (use ctrl-F), except "@oem9.inf;%svga%;VMware SVGA 3D". and delete values (dont delete keys, only values).
4) Restart VM

That's actually pretty much it. If you open dxdiag and 3D excel isnt enabled that is why your splash screen is crashing! That means you do not have VMware Tools! You must install it before doing anyof those steps.
