Hi there,
with the recent bans, more and more smart botters are fiddling with their configuration in order to isolate their different Diablo 3 clients, and avoid a mass ban. A popular solution right now is to isolate one or more accounts into dedicated Virtual Machines, and a specific IP (through v*n or s*h tunnel).

Right now I am using vmware workstation 8, and I am having some random crash of my display driver on my host machine, making each VM a "black screen" (everything is running smooth, but behind a black screen when the graphic driver recover). I know parallels extreme 6 is another popular "casual" virtualization tool, and I am looking for feedback from my fellow botters; did anyone benchmarked the two solutions, and which one do you find the best ?

Is there a demand for relogging accross different virtual machines ?

Hum, why not, but since I am kinda "OCD", I prefer to handle each VM independantly, especially since I have to hook up the dedicated v*n too.

But I am interested in how you could achieve that, since I don't see how, from a Dreloger running in the host machine, you would be able to "look into the process" of the different VMs.

I'm running with VMware, used it since the release of DB.
Works fine on my sixcore AMD.

The only issue I have with VMs at the moment is the amount of D3s you can run.

I would preferably be able to run 6 D3s in VMs, but that is just not doable.
I can run 6 d3s with DB in normal windows, but VMs just won't do.

How many VMs can you force onto a Six-Core AMD?

Theoretically, you can use one VM per core but to be honest, on a desktop CPU you'd be lucky to get good performance.

RAM will be your limiting factor anyway. You'll need lots of it. 2GB of RAM per VM at a minimum from my experience.

Try the workstation tech preview. It is free till october. Better graphic performance with it.

Never heard about Parallels. I use on my Main-PC (AMD x6 1100T) VMware 8.x Workstation in background with few levelers. Also getting sometimes black screens. Thought its on me ^^ So it sounds normal now, grr...

Performance wise it outperforms VMware. I don't know Parallels, so no experiences there.

You can use grafic acceleration through direct driver support. I suppose you want to point on 3d acceleration. We don't use it but it is possible.

Greetings.

Proxmox only works with 64 bit sytems? :(
I'm on a 5 year old desktop, 32 bit, 4 gig ram, the only good thing there is my graphics card.
Having issues with vmware too, it stutters when the bot runs in lowest possible settings.

System requirements Proxmox VE

Recommended

Dual or Quad Socket Server (Quad/Six/Hexa Core CPUs?)
CPU: 64bit (Intel EMT64 or AMD64)
Intel VT/AMD-V capable CPU/Mainboard (for KVM Full Virtualization support)
8 GB RAM is good, more is better (grab as much as possible)
Hardware RAID with batteries protected write cache (BBU) or flash protection
Fast hard drives, best results with 15k rpm SAS, Raid10
Two Gbit NIC (for bonding), additional NIC?s depending on the preferred storage technology and cluster setup
Fencing hardware (only needed for HA)

Minimum (for testing)

Minimum 1 GB RAM
Hard drive
One NIC

I use vmware workstation 8.x and i run 6 VM's currently on my i5 3570k with 32gb of ram. just make sure the total ram across all the VM's are less than 50% than your total ram. no black screen, no hiccups what so ever, albeit, i run them at lower resolution.

Workstation 8 also requires a 64 bit CPU.

Proxmox VE is based on Debian GNU/Linux. Meaning you can't install it over/on Windows.

Been using VMware which works ok but the performance could be better. Now I just tried Parallels Extreme and i can't even get Diablo to start on it. When launching nothing happens but the exe is still active in task manager.

I got vmworkstation 8 and created a vm win7 86bits, installed d3 and db

but my char used to get 450k gold/hr but running on VM its get maxium 300k gold/hr, anyone now why?

My laptop is a alienware i7 12gbddr3 ssd 128gb and radeon 7970m

My vm is 2 proc and 2 cores, 6gb memory and 60gb disc

Hello,

I am trying to run all my diablo's in VM workstation 8.

I got the following

16gig's of ram
I7 2600k 3.4 overclocked to 4.3
Geforce 570

And the VM runs pretty smooth with one diablo (black screens if i use the diablo 3 resizer) (Windows mode works fine)
But the momment i try to use 2 diablo 3's in that VM it goes for a bit then freezes the whole VM workstation.

VM set up:
75gig's hard drive
windows 7 64 bit pro
Diablo 3 x 2 clients copyed /pasted 2nd
windows updates
.net
C+
Demonbuddy/Drelog
4gig's of ram set to the VM.

I dont know what else to do, I did read i should install my graphics card driver on the VM? but noting is missing in the VM hardware.

I dont want to have a vm for each Diablo, But if i have to i can.

I just want my host computer to be able to play Full screen games while Diablo is running the the background in the VM.

PM me if you know more about VM and can help me out we can use Team viewer or Skype.
