VAC Detection question

Hi all. Gabe Newell has confirmed that steam has been indentifying botters by detecting the bots connection to authentication servers. Do you think blizz might follow suit or do they already do this, and would this impact hb?

Pro tip: They won't do it for long.

Punkbuster used to do this. They then stopped doing it due to the ability to exploit it and cause false bans. All you have to do is embed a image or anything that links back to those servers to cause a ban. Additionally you can get around it by flushing your DNS once authenticated. Punkbuster stopped this back during BF2's days due to a certain hack website causing over 2000 false bans in one day. It was very fun to do.

The problem with this is more critical for people that uses custom routines that have paid options than with HB itself. I'm sure HB will have a way around this as they do for Warden. Protection to your accounts is their first priority and they have outstanding coders that can back it up.

However, when it comes to custom paid routines (Tuanz, Millz, etc), I am not sure if I can say the same thing. Its usually just one person and they might have not the resources to circumvent whatever VAC-similar coding Blizzard will install.

VAC-similar coding won't kill HB, it will kill custom paid plugins/routines.

In regards to custom routines. They'll be fine. Most are authenticated against trusted SVN websites rather than bespoke websites. If they were to cause a ban on those they'd still get a few false positives from those that use them for other reasons. Or programs which pull data from them.

How hard is it to get a trust SVN website? What's stopping the original cheater program to get a trusted SVN for dialing home in order to bypass VAC?
