Tried searching around some on this topic, didn't find anything.
I'm sorry if there's more info on this I've missed.

So, my question is simply; Wouldn't it be safer to transfer gold between accounts through auctions?
Like making different (extremely overpriced) auctions of simple items, i.e Refreshing Spring Water (24c for 5) and making lots of auctions for them to cut down the individual price some.
Sure, you'll need to spend like 30 minutes in the starting zone initially to be able to buy enough stacks for this.

Has anyone tried something similar? Even with transfers going to the customer?

If you sell or buy items even on a noob... for extreme prices... you run into economy exploitation. I was banned for 72 hours once for this. (Luckily it was only that.)

I bought gold through a gold seller... they told me to put up like 10 items for 1000G. For the 10K in gold I ordred (THIS WAS A LONG TIME AGO BEFORE GB)...

And pop a ban about a day later.

So you can use extreme caution when doing this because it's a risk.

I ran into the same thing (3 day ban) though I was not buying gold. I had just been auctioning off many many pieces of cloth, then sending it to an alt on another account. I think it was the sending to the other account that flagged me, but they are under the same name. I believe they have some auto-suspend for sending a lot of gold to another toon, even if you own both. I have also heard of bans from depositing/withdrawing from guild bank in large amounts. Don't know how true it is though.

i prefer guild bank gold transfers

Setting up ranks to have a maximum amount to withdraw, invite the buyer and then let him go pick it up?
They kinda get to peek inside though of the huge amounts of gold, getting names and being able to report?

leave the amount in the GB that they have ordered and only that.. withdrawl the rest to an alt toon. SO if they ordered 10k just leave that in it then they see nothing

I would personally just meet up with the person you are selling gold/transferring gold to and open up the trade window. Put x amount of gold in the appropriate box, and then when you hit trade just say something like "FUCK, keyboard glitch-ed right before I hit trade. Whatever man, have fun with it." or a variant of the sort, and that should leave you almost full proof. It would also be a plus if you were level 80s. I got this idea from the PiroXBots forums, but I'm not exactly sure who posted it, and I'm way too lazy to go search it up. At least you have an alibi if Blizzard tries to permanently ban you, just say it was an honest mistake. ;)

might work once..

how far back does blizz keep logs? Could they see if u used the same message two weeks before?

Blizz keeps logs a long way back. If they want to nail you for it they will. Just don't give them a reason to do so.

I'm not afraid to lose a couple of vanilla accounts here and there - it's the farmers I'm afraid of losing.
So it is mainly the transferring to the newly activated vanilla account that I worry about, that whatever I transferred from might get banned in the process.

If moving from the guild bank is a safe method, even with a slight tax loss, it is worth it.
I'll probably have more gold than buyers anyway.
