Using 'hard' item rules in trinity

When using hard item rules in trinity does it still follow the scoring mechanism? Does it have it's own scoring after that and I need to set my scores lower? Or does scores only apply if item is not defined in the rules?

I am using the default hard rules in trinity and I only want decent items to be stashed, but I don't want it to trash something if it's decent. So how should I setup my scoring using default hard rules?
