Using a plugin (like one of mines, links in signature!) that requires you to create a route to use it, but have no idea how to get started? This tutorial is for you then. If you're already familiar with the GPS Editor & GPS plugin then you probably won't learn anything from this post.
The Tools
There are two different tools needed to create your paths:
- The GPS Editor: that's the real application, you launch it with the "GPS Editor.exe" file in your ArcheBuddy folder
- The GPS Plugin: that's what allows you to make paths easily from the game client. You launch it from the plugin manager (after having started the GPS Editor)
Once you have both active, you'll see your character's position in the GPS Editor. Click the button on the far right of the toolbar to keep the map centered on your character if that makes things easier for you.
And remember to save your path, with the floppy disk icon at the top left, when it's finished (or before experimenting to be able to load back the good version)
Getting started with a simple path
At that point you have the GPS Editor and GPS Plugin running:
- Open the "File" menu and select "New", it will ask you for a file name/location to save your future path. Do as required by the plugin you're making the path for.
- Move your character to where you want to start your path
- Switch to the "Auto" tab on the GPS Plugin and click the "auto" checkbox.
- You can start moving along the path you want your character to follow while botting and you'll see it being drawn in the GPS Editor. Keep in mind that it will track all your movement so don't backtrack and try to get too close to obstacles since it will record waypoints and not exact path so you want to keep a margin of error
- When you get to your destination, remember to uncheck "Auto" in the GPS Plugin and it might look like that on GPS Editor.
Alternative: creating paths manually
- Open the "File" menu and select "New", it will ask you for a file name/location to save your future path. Do as required by the plugin you're making the path for.
- Move your character to where you want to start your path
- Select the "Manual" tab of the GPS Plugin and click the "Add Point" button
- Move your character to the next waypoint and click "Add Link". Repeat until you get to your destination
Maybe you need to have full control of where your waypoints are placed to navigate around obstacles? If so manual mode is there for you!
Simple edits: naming points
The most important feature of the GPS system is being able to assign names to location, so plugins can use these to move your character around.
To do that, just zoom in on the point so you can double-click accurately on it (without moving it, since you can drag & drop points in the editor by mistake). It will open a popup with the points coordinates (that you don't want to touch) and a "Name" input where you'll want to put the waypoint name required by the plugin you're using.
To check that everything is named correctly, you can press Alt+N to toggle the display of waypoint names in the GPS Editor after zooming out to have the whole path visible on screen.
Simple edits: connecting another path
The plugin requires you to create more than a simple A->B path or backtrack along the path?
- After getting to the first dead end, uncheck "Auto" as usual, then move to where the path should continue (leave a 10-15m gap between your last waypoint)
- Repeat until you have everything you want mapped
Now it's time to connect everything into a single path. First a few things to know about the editor to avoid some possible frustration:
- The editor supports multi-selection and might make you delete too much if you don't pay attention. You can unselect everything by double-clicking (without any "Create" button active) in an empty area of the map
- The "Create point/link" buttons stay active after you use them: if you're not creating connected links, you need to disable and re-enable it after every one so it doesn't try to connect all your new links together.
So time to connect your paths and get rid of these gaps.
- Toggle the "Create Link" on
- Click on the 2 points that need to be connected, it will draw a red line between your two points
- Toggle the "Create link" off, so it doesn't try to link this to the next one you'll make
- Repeat until all your paths are connected to each other
Simple edits: deleting old routes or fixing mistakes
You realised part of your path was bad or messed up with the clicking and have extra points/links at unwanted locations in your route?
- Make sure the Create Point/Link/Polygon buttons are off
- Double click somewhere empty in the map to make sure nothing you want to keep is selected
- Click once on all the points & links that you want to delete, they'll turn green
- Once everything is selected, press the "Delete" key on keyboard and poof it's gone, your path is clean again
