trying to get setup to run a pally with junk gear herb/mining need advice

He is an old level 80 chr I just don't do much with any more. mining at 220 and herb at 3 LOL
I am going to try to start making gold with him if I can.
He is dual spec ret/def and I did some daily dungeons with him as def. His gear is not that great but ok.
ret spec was forgotten when he made 80 so you can guess what that looks like LOL

Can he/should he use def as spec while running GB?
He doesn't even have epic flying :(


First I have to get mining and herb to max. Will someone run me thru Elwynn Forest I am scared :)

Should go ret for gathering tbh, faster. Even with AH greens + blues it's easily the quickest at killing single mobs that may be guarding nodes and herbs.
 
man this was great. I went from 220 to 300 in no time.
Now some stupid questions (again)

New to this stuff, should I smelt everything or sell ore.
I was thinking of quicker sells and if I would level mining faster.
I looked at thorium on my server and the price of ore and bars is about the same...stack of 20 was about 1-2 G difference.
But if one is quicker sale then I want to go with that.

Now that I am at 300 in outland I assume I will have to get gatherbuddy, is uses flying mount?
 
as for the AH... it all just depends on your server. I'e seen some servers where ore is a gold mine... and others its a waist to try to AH. What I've learned a good practice is if you plan on leveling any other toons for BS/JS/Eng then figure out how much ore you will need (a good guide works wonders), save up those requirements, then just smelt the rest (for leveling your mining only) and then sell it off. Also, If you have a JC, then you can just prospect the extra ore for gems which usually brings in some decent coin on the AH regardless.

Its all about what you really "want" out of the botting experience when it comes down to it. I utilized GB to level all my professions that required mining and herb gathering in no time (BS, JC, ENG, ALC, INSCRIPT) and now those are good gold makers on the various servers they are setup on.
 
I got GB working..so far so good
