The End of Botting, or Just the Beginning of a New Phase?

As many of you are aware, Blizzard has begun going after botters in Europe. Rumors are surfacing of Blizzard writing scripts to begin taking down botters here in the good ole' US of A (Happy 4th, btw). The generally accepted theory at this point is that Blizzard is unable to detect DB's bot itself. The recent injunction filed and executed in Germany seems to indicate this could be the case. If this theory is indeed true, it's because of their inability to track DB via Warden they've resorted to banning accounts whose characters are seen to be utilizing patterns of entering/playing/exiting games that are characteristic only of bots.

Even though we all knew we would get banned eventually, it's still understandable that a lot of us here in the US are worried. Botting is profitable only if done for long periods of time. Current profiles and plugins for the most part (with few exceptions) seem to allow only for repetitive patterns of entering, killing monsters, and exiting games with little variation that's more so indicative of a real human doing the monster farms.

So here's my question for the DB community. Is there a possibility Team DB and those coding profiles and plug-ins could adapt to Blizzard's current strategy of targeting patterns? Is there any robust effort being made toward designing profiles and plug-ins so that our bots' in-game patterns don't appear automated? In the grander scheme of things, will we be able to use bots with a diminished possibility of being caught by Blizzard's incoming scripts? Are we all just doomed to be smacked by the incoming bot police in the US?

This is just a thought that's been on the back of my mind. I hope no one takes this as a stab at Team DB. I've been a huge fan of theirs since I first started using their bot and have been supportive of them even since the injunction first came to light. If anything, I hope this thread more so encourages discussion than heated arguments.

EDIT: Had to change a few words.

Ummmm... botting has been around for ever, and so have scripts to catch them. If they were finding botters, there would be FAR more bans than there are.

Best way is to have profiles that clear entire acts instead of making 1000k sarkoth games.

That script would be definitely something worth exploring. I would gladly shell out money for a smooth-running script that can do Butcher runs without a hitch. Imagine the headaches this would create for Blizzard's bot police if we were to include a couple of lines in the profile that allows for 15-minute breaks.

i don't see why this would be difficult to do... in fact, it should have been implemented into core demonbuddy by now.

I just got off the phone with Jay Wilson, he said the bans were a mistake and everyone's accounts will be reactivated in the next 2-3 days.

go make a program that can navigate through randomly generated dungeons then get back to us alright?

Devs have stated that is what is next, once they get local navigation working perfectly.

Good to know.

Any idea of how soon we can expect this to come through? I'm only running one bot, would rather not get it banned just yet...

I did create something, last night, to help combat this issue. Check out the Scheduler in my plugin. (...in my sig.) It helps rotate profiles, ect.

One single fact that has made it so much easier for Blizz to catch us is that this forum is open.

So you're one of the people who think blizzard wouldn't just pay $40 for access ? A billion dollar company ? please think about that before you reply.

Dev: Hey Jay?
Jay Wilson: Yeah.
Dev: Hey so it's gonna cost like 40 bucks to monitor Demonbuddy's forums.
Jay: Get. Out. Of. My. Office.

What world do you live in ? $40 when you have a budget in the millions ? You really that naive to think they wouldn't just pay it ?

Jays boss: Why don't you know more about Demonbuddy ?
Jay: Because I wouldn't spend $40 to access the forums.
Jays boss: You're fired Jay.

:)
