Why not keep an ini file with settings like paths to meshes and profiles etc etc.

This way you can have HB setups in separate folders w/o having to change these settings if you decide to play another class with dif. profile.

Current setup is just to cause issues if you don't pay attention.

Also i suggest you create a "to do" list for Honorbuddy

<chuckles>

1. Honorbuddy already uses a INI-like file, but the syntax is XML instead. If you look in your HB directory, you should find:
  • StyxSettings.xml, and
  • LevelbotSettings_TOONNAME.xml
Between these two files, all your settings should be saved.

It is perfectly feasible to keep separate copies of HB in different directories. If you wish to share some settings files, you use the Windoze File Explorer to "create a shortcut" between files in the various directories--but this doesn't always work. Even if the shortcut is created, navigation will frequently fail unless the program is designed to look for them.

A better solution is to drop to the command line and use the 'mklink' command to create actual symbolic links (instead of shortcuts) between the participating files.

If you do either, you should NOT have two different copies of HB accessing the same files at the same time.

2. The publicly viewable "To Do" list is kept at http://bugtracker.buddyforum.de/index.php.
I'm sure there is another very big one behind the scenes.

cheers,
CJ

everytime i am about to install a fresh HB it uses the path from the previous installation's profiles when you're about to load a profile.

Is HB also using the registry then ?

HB does not use the registry that I know of. My guess is you installed your 'fresh' HB on top of an existing one. If you did install on top of an existing installation, that is not considered 'fresh'. Be careful of your choice of words when asking for help, please. <snideness not intended>

The StyxSettings.xml and Levelbot_TOONNAME.xml are not part of the HB zip file--they are created by HB, if they are missing when they are needed. As such, if you did install on top of an existing HB, then HB found the old files and used them.

In the previous post, I failed to mention the QuestSettings_TOONNAME.xml file, also. Apparently, HB uses a config file for each bot by toon. So, there are several config files spread around that need to be examined.

cheers,
CJ

I would be happier if we can have a better folder hierarchy.

That's added in the next release, all settings files will be in a folder in the root directory of hb called Settings

Cheers Nesox! That will help a lot.
Will this work for cc settings also?
