My friend recently got scammed of 20m gold in US server. The buyer performed a PayPal chargeback two days after he received the gold from my friend, and PayPal decided the case in the scammer's favour (no idea why, it was filed as "Unauthorized Transaction" or something along that line).

Is there anything my friend can do? Does Blizzard care about these kinda trade scams? Anyone experienced the same thing and got their gold back?

P.S. I'm not posting this in the bnet D3 forums because there are too many trolls and I'm not gonna receive a constructive reply, compared to here where most bot to sell gold (and have sold).

You can't prove to PayPal that you sold gold to someone (virtual goods) so they always can chargeback or dispute that they didn't receive the goods.

There is no tracking number or anything, so there is no proof of delivery.

The only thing i can think of is asking the buyer to send PP money as a "gift" transaction.

How about providing screenshots or videos of the trade?

I didn't know that, lucky I don't deal with players using PayPal..

I know a lot of people will take screenshots or even videos of their transactions for this very reason. Then you do have proof. However, Paypal and Blizzard are both against sales of virtual goods (unless their getting a piece of the pie like RMAH) so it's unlikely they will care.

The only way to try and mitigate this type of behavior is to insist people send payment as a "gift", I hear it's much harder to charge back gift transactions.

any other online pay company without the possiblity to charge back? how about ebay sells, most of the services use paypal.

Yeah that's what the scammer sent as. The payment was sent as gift, and he filed a dispute saying he did not make the transaction and Paypal returned him his money.. and the rest is history.

So there's nothing my friend can do?

Interested to know too. Got some gold for sale now :|

Nothing.

Try to find someone with moneybookers XD or someone who has a reputation of buying bulk gold. Or you could do it on playerauctions, but 12% is taken out.

Full proof method is that buyer of virtual items vrite in message that he is buying virtua items and he wil not ask for refund etc ... and send payment as gift.

but this wont work with anuthorized transaction ... so yea ur fucked ... sady ...

what ive done to sell and buy from my friends all over the world was just (all through paypal) set up an invoice then send a request for payment, that way there is an actuall reciept, and it can be listed under virtual items. Ive had to ask for refunds through paypal in the past and even required bestbuy do it once ...... took about a week with bestbuy but got my money back for a digital gameguide my son wanted to DL ( was crap in my eyes and my 8 year olds eyes lol). Always have an escape route when your not sure about the product or seller.

Gift payments are just as easily charged back.

Avoid paypal if you are dealing with random people, just sell to reputable resellers.

There is a guide on how to not get scammed on ownedcore. Essentially, PayPal will always favor the sender especially if money is sent as a gift. Sending as a gift implies that you are trying to evade the fee, which PayPal doesn't like. If you are serious about it, it is suggested that you make sure to have the buyer send the payment as a regular payment with the words, "received product, no chargeback" then, you send them a postcard to the mailing address provided by PayPal after taking a picture of it addressed and stamped. Postcard costs a buck, is it worth it? Guess that's up to you.

If people really want to chargeback you, they won't be doing it through PayPal. They just chargeback the credit card as an unauthorized transaction. PayPal never gets theoney, therefore, you don't get the money. Only sell to reputable buyers, or the Chinese.

This does not work, just had someone reverse buying gold that did this last week, he won.
