Your machine has too many 'temporary' files
Hi,
Sausky,
Windoze has a maximum hard limit of 65535 temporary files. Windoze does not clean up temporary files on boot (as it should, and other operating systems do). Thus, when programs create temporary files and do not clean up after themselves, this temporary file limit can be reached, and the result is problems like you are experiencing. (Please note that Honorbuddy
does clean up after itself, so its not the program causing this problem.)
Unfortunately, we can't tell you exactly where the temporary files reside, because that depends on how you've configured your system. If you haven't changed it, by default Windoze places the TMP directory in
C:/Users/<username>/AppData/Local/Temp. (Please be aware that
AppData is normally a 'hidden' directory in Windoze. You may have to change the "Show hidden file, folders, and drives" setting in your FileExplorer to see it.)
If you are not using the Windoze default settings for Temporary Files placement, here are the places you need to look:
The location at which temporary files are created is based on the existence of environment variables in the following order, and uses the first path found:
The path specified by the TMP environment variable.
The path specified by the TEMP environment variable.
The path specified by the USERPROFILE environment variable.
The Windows directory.
You may have to use Google to have this explained further about how to examine environment variable contents.
Basically, once you locate the temporary directory, you want to delete all the
.TMP files therein. Be very careful not to delete everything--just files that end in
.TMP. (Also, be aware that Windoze FileExplorer hides file extensions from you by default--you may need to turn off "Hide extensions for known file types" in its configuration.)
cheers,
chinajade
