Hey,

after using WoWGilder for quite a long time till it got sued, I wanted to re-join the botter community again.
I heard lots of good aspects about HonorBuddy. It seems stable, (almost) undetectable and very comfortable. Well, I bought it this afternoon and then my expectations disappeared.
At first - imho - the forums are kind of messed up. There is much information in many subforums. I miss a topic for newbies. How to set it up, what profiles to download, how to install Plug-Ins, CCs and especially what's up with HB2 which has version numbers starting 1.9.x, not 2.x.

Well, I know, board search is your friend and so I searched for it and got my information in about two hours. After downloading a few useful plugins I created a blood elf pally because it appears to be an easy-to-bot class.
So I loaded a blood elf profile with questing support. It accepted several quests and started running around in eversong woods. Apparently there was a problem with the profile and I don't felt like struggling around at level 1, so I started an undead mage.
At first there were some issues with accepting quests. It accepted them and stopped botting. Nothing further happened, my mage just stood there and did nothing. After re-starting HB all's fine.
The next problems appeared around level 6. I don't know if you are familiar with WANTED: Maggot Eye, but it's a mob in a house, surrounded by around 4 lvl 6 - 8 npcs. Of course my mage died. And died. And died. It ran from the cementery to his corpse which was surrounded by those 4 mobs and had obviously no chance.
I disabled this quest in the profile XML so leveling could continue, resurrected at the cementery and moved to the middle of brill. Standing there I enabled mining and herbalism in my preferences and started botting with the same, re-loaded profile again.
My mage moved to the camp in front of UC, to UC, out of UC (this was a quest btw) and finally to Agamand Mills. And here it got even worse.
Instead of pulling a hostile mob the bot went through them, got attacked and fighted back. With frostbolts. In melee range. It was okay till it arrived at the Mills, dying again because of adds and more adds. Resurrecting. Dying. ...

So I were like "You're stupid. Start over again and try another profile." ... Done. That one started in Mulgore, my mage was lvl 8, and went at lvl 12 over to the Barrens.
I looked in the XML to find out which sub-profile fits my level range and went there. After starting the bot, it began grinding till it arrived at the Bloodhoof village. There it accepted green quests(!) and tried to get their requirements done. It failed after running around the lake for about 2 minutes.

So, why am I telling you this? First of all this isn't a "mimimimi"-Thread. So many people are using HB and haven't got any problems at all, so there aren't any aspects to mimimi about ;)
My simple question is: What am I doing wrong?
Am I using the wrong profiles? Should I create one on my own (I'm very familiar with XML because of programming xHTML, PHP, etc. for several years btw)? How difficult is creating a private profile? How save is creating a private profile (it's untested so one might get stuck, etc.)?
Which profiles do you use? How did your mage went to lvl 80 with HB? Should I start a new character, like a pally, for the beginning?
When questing in Mulgore or Durotar because of lack of blood elf profiles, how do I train my abilities at lvl 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10?
What's up with those CCs and these mystical looting issues?

You see, lots and lots of questions. Yes, I might search for it but I've searched enough for today and I'd love to get recent information cosidering HB2 :)

To all the bot developers out there, creators of public profiles and CC's: You are doing a great job! I know it's a bit tough with HB2 now but, man, your stuff is awesome!

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your reaction,
greetings,
Alexdo :)

i would suggest just using either mixed or grinding mode, questing is in its early beta stage and if you want to level your toons up i suggest you skip that for now, and look into how to make your own profiles, or use public profiles.

With Tonys help I was able to figure out the problems. I'm going to post the solutions here in case somebody has similar issues :)

1.) Problems during questing
This is caused by HBs early questing beta stadium. These are minor issues, I was able to continue questing after I re-started the bot.

2.) CC & Loot issues
Mage default CC: Is very basic but loots almost everything. Switching to a custom CC is recommended anyway.

Mephiles: Many, many self-explaining options. It's a great CC and looks very human. There's currently a problem with pulling mobs which I'll report later. In addition to that, Mephiles loots only 10 - 30% of hostile's corpes. This is an HB issue, not CC's one! Will be fixed in upcoming versions of HB.

Project E: Yes, it's outdated, I know, but I gave it a try. No problems so far but not as flowing as Mephiles. It's kind of weird: Project E loots around 20 - 50% ;)

The One CC: Has a very sweet Mage CC. No information about looting, pulling, etc. though because I hadn't got the chance to try it yet.

3.) Pulling during questmode
Make sure you've got "Kill between Hotspots" ticked.

4.) Accepting Quests and running around
Use the right mode, idiot :D (I'd quest mode enabled, but were on a grinding profile^^)

5.) Mixed mode
Mixed mode queues you for a BG. Meanwhile it's grinding around till the BG pops up. It will do the BG and return tto grinding process afterwards. You do not have to change any profile when your character enters the BG!
Mixed mode is the best/fastest way of leveling so far.

6.) Public vs. private profiles
Do what you want. A public profile don't really matters while grinding. As soon as it comes down to BGs it might look very bottish in case another player is botting with HB in the same BG on the same route in your battlegroup.
Well, let's say this is some kind of risky, but the chance of meeting another bot is quite low.
It's purely a matter of taste.

7.) Creating profiles
In case you think private profiles are more secure or just want to try it out, you'll find much information in the guide section of this board.
The XMLs are very easy designed. Needed Tags are almost self-explaining and, in addition, HB has a built-in path recording system.
Keep in mind that private profiles are untested. Public profiles are more accurate beacuse of bug reporting and the community.

8.) Which character to start with?
Well, as always you should choose a character you like. Some classes will die less than others but in the end they'll all reach the 80.

DKs, Paladins and Warriors are easy to bot.
Warlocks and Hunters are fast.
Priest, Rogues and Mages are hard.

Thanks again to Tony for his time and help :)
