Rename Honorbuddy - A Guide for the Paranoid

Hey I did this on my desktop computer and now I was doing it on my new alienware laptop and I am fallowing exactly what u have provided but now when I launch HB it says "Logging in" then 20 seconds later says "Internet explorer as stopped working"

internet explorer because that's what Im disguising my client as... why is it doing this? if I launch the original client it works fine.... any help?

I'm pretty sure the HB dev team would know if Blizzard were scanning for process names.

Hi, this doesn't work anymore.

Sorry

If they aren't scanning, fine, but some people here say that blizz can take a "snap shot" of the processes and see that HB was running at the time. SO, wouldn't we still want to rename it or hide it some how?

I do understand the OPs concerns but the question of changing the bots exe name has been around since 2006 when the first WOW bots came around. Back then the users/devs did not know much about Warden or detection methods that were used. Many bots came with the exe file changed to something different like notepad.exe. Despite all of this banwaves by the 10s of thousands of accounts still occured. Many bot developers and programmers who monitored warden stopped changing the exe name because of this.

Honorbuddy even with its flaws is the most advanced and complex bot ever released and has a proven track record of doing its best to protect its users. I have seen many banwaves with so many people reporting to the ban section the forurms were crashed for days. The devs here are the best and most experiened not to mention I am unaware of any other bot that is shipped with its exe file modified. Honorbuddy has an elaborate tripwire system that has prevented a major ban wave from occurring. The bans that we see today are not due to software detection, the cause is up for debate. If doing so would make a difference their is no doubt that that the devs would implement this change in a heart beat.

I do see your point but dont beleive that changing the exe name will do any good. Its been tried and proven many times over the years and gives people a false sense of security.

Why was it even stopped by the devs? Whats the harm in users having a little self peace? The only reason I see why this stopped is to protect the copyright of the bot than the users themselves since I doubt having the memory change affects the internal functions of the bot in anyway.
