Regarding recent rule changes to paid work.

Okay, it has been made apparent that the discussion and linking to paid and/or donator versions of profiles and combat routines on this forum has been banned. I don't understand why this needed to happen, there were no payment disputes for the mods to deal with, and all the work was quality work. At the core of it honorbuddy is a community driven project, a program is provided and we are given the tools to create for it.

The only reason i can see for such a rule to go through is that they did not want everything to be kept behind a paywall. But i didn't ever see that happen, there was always a competent free version alongside the paid version. And this worked well for a long time.

This is only hurting the community, these donator versions require a substantial time investment. With these changes you are not going to see creators simply start putting all their work out for free, what you are going to see is dead projects because there was no incentive to keep them up to standard. This is simply going to push people and creators away. There is opposition to paid work, but put simply if these profile were not paid i doubt many of them would ever have been created.

I would love to hear from the mods and community on this, and again i ask that a discussion be allowed here.

I'm pretty sure there was quite a long thread discussing the pros and cons of the move to not allowing links/adverts to paid versions at the time of the rule change.
So I'm thinking this thread won't survive long to give meaningful discussion not least because several devs who did advertise/link paid versions no longer bother with the official hb forum.

From what I understand, the main reason they made it so you're not allowed was because some developers released a free ver that was basicly crap and just used it to promote their payed ver.
For example, this great free ver does abosulte nothing but if you get the payed ver it will do everything.
I think they removed it because they want quality work to be released on this forum and not just something that shows what you could get if you pay for it.

Or lets take a serious example.
I just released a new QB called CODMail where you can send specific items to specific persons with or without COD.
Lets say I would release a free version of that.
The free version would then be that you can send mail but not attach items, so making it totaly worthless.

Thats the way it should be, donations should be voluntary, not demanded to get a full working version. Links in free versions to payed ones, big no.
Most free versions work, but lack a lot needed in competitive pvp for example. If you want it, you need to pay for it, thats bs imo.

You cant call it a contribution to the community no more then, it becomes a job.

No. They can post paid profiles on ownedcore in the wow wts sell thread and they can have the link to that in there free profile op topic

I think it's silly that developers have to charge people for their work, if you like the work of a developer and you have a spare coin then just donate to him to encourage the developer to improve and do more work.

I haven't charged anything for any of my work, but I still have gained a few donations, nothing that make me rich, but enough to encourage me.
Even a donation of 5$ shows that you like their work.

  As such, the company is free to impose any rules it sees fit. Obviously, a company wants to nurture its user base; however, there are other considerations that come into play that are not open for public comment.
  
  The risks a company chooses to take or expose itself to is not up for debate. BosslandGmbH, as the forum provider, has made its decision regarding this policy, and its not up discussion.
