Questy - the ultimate questorder profile designer

yeah this time it complains there is no such thing as a warrior trainer.

This is a pretty cool tool. I've been using it to build some profiles that pick up where HordeQuest 1-60 currently leaves off (around level 25). I've got 3 chars, all mid-20's that I'm testing with and will release once they're complete. A few things I've noticed:
1) WoWHead returns quests that for some reason are unavailable to me. I get the whole quest-chain concept, but these are standalone quests with no (apparent) prerequisite. Yet when I run to the QuestGiver, they have nothing to offer. I've read up on comments on Wowhead regarding the quest and can't figure this one out. Perhaps there's a faction/reputation requirement (I'm running a blood-elf paladin through Hillsbrad Foothiils
2) When the quests are returned from Wowhead, they're sorted by whatever criteria (level by default). Maybe find a way to group related quests together so your're not jumping all around when adding them to the profile. Another idea may be to indent chained quests so there's a visual indicator that you can work from instead of reading them from a straight line list and trying to group them together
3) A map with visual indicators (where the quest giver is, where the questing area is, where the turn in is) so we can better pickup quests from an area of quest givers, run objectives in the same area and turn in to quest givers in all in the same area at the same time
4) An option or way to hide quests in a chain from the quest list until such time as the prerequisite quests have been done.
5) A way to generate quest overrides
6) Support for new questorder tags (runto, useitem, etc)
7) In the Questy quest list screen that we add quest pickups, objectives and turn-ins there is a clear option which clears all quests. An option to clear out a single quest and it's related pickup, objective & turn in would be nice.

This is what has occurred to me so far. I'll add more as I keep working with it. Props on such a great tool, makes profile building much easier. Keep up the great work.

What do you mean quest overrides? Rigth now you should be able to duoble click on an objective/turnin/pickup and add detail yourself.

Runto and useitem is all supported already in the latest version.

Ahh, wicked sweet. Didn't realize you could clicky to enter details. And totally missed the RunTo & UseItem. Thanks

There... nice and bold for you now in the instructions ;) Can you revise your perfect wishlist, so I have a more complete understanding of what you (and I) want for the future of this program. THanks :D Oh, and TWList... wowhead isn't so nice to me in returning anything remotely sorted... I have to do some advanced sorting myself based on like 6 different things. Grouping by level should be the best way to get it in the order that the quests will be seen (I'm not sure of a better way to do it).

Testing Questy right now. Thanks for that awesome tool.

First thing I noticed:

Changing the Type (Mob/Vendor/GameObject) for Objectives with CollectFrom doesn't work. It always gets saved as "Mob".

Also it would be nice to add a space and a comment with the link to wowhead
as comment at the top of Quest PickUps automatically. Format would look like this for example:

Code:
    <!--http://www.wowhead.com/quest=11512-->
    <PickUp QuestName="The Frozen Heart of Isuldof" QuestId="11512" GiverId="24539" GiverName="\'Silvermoon\' Harry" />
    <Objective QuestName="The Frozen Heart of Isuldof" QuestId="11512" Type="CollectItem" Name="The Frozen Heart of Isuldof" ItemId="34237" CollectCount="1" />
    <TurnIn QuestName="The Frozen Heart of Isuldof" QuestId="11512" TurnInId="23804" TurnInName="Orfus of Kamagua" />

    <!--http://www.wowhead.com/quest=11511-->
    <PickUp QuestName="The Staff of Storm's Fury" QuestId="11511" GiverId="24539" GiverName="\'Silvermoon\' Harry" />
    <Objective QuestName="The Staff of Storm's Fury" QuestId="11511" Type="CollectItem" Name="The Staff of Storm's Fury" ItemId="34236" CollectCount="1" />
    <TurnIn QuestName="The Staff of Storm's Fury" QuestId="11511" TurnInId="23804" TurnInName="Orfus of Kamagua" />

Ahh a bug I overlooked. Thanks for the info. So do you mean after it generates the xml in Questy, you want the generated xml to always have at the top of all <Pickup> lines a link to wowhead? FIrst of all, remember you can simply load up the profile on questy, middle click any pickup/turnin/objective entry and it will automatically load up that quest in wowhead on your browser. Also, in the xml it generates, it is kind of obvious that you simply have to take the questid and just append it to every wowhead.com/quest={id} over and over and over... so I think this is a bit superfluous.

The wowhead link would just be a "nice to have" for people who look into the file with a simple text editor. But it also can be added by comments if the autor wants them.

Another thing. In my opinion your key bindings are little bit confusing. Maybe you can add buttons to drop marked items from left to right and also up and down on the right side. And a delete button too.. Look into the attachment for an example. Best way for moving items would be drag and drop though ;)

I'm missing shortcuts to undo changes (strg+z, strg+y). Please try to add the "standard" shortcuts for editors.

Hi thanks for your ideas about how to change the program. I always value them greatly! My thoughts are this: Pressing A to move all elements into the left panes (as well as delete if they are not questing elements) and likewise pressing D to move all elements into the right panes, are not too copmlicated in my opinion, for these are simply the standard keys used by all gamers. Furtghermore, pressing W,S are nto complicated because those always move elements up or down.

But how bout this happy medium between our ideas: I will implement a feature that you can drag and drop and move up and down with the use of just your mouse, while leaving the W/A/S/D feature in place. THis way both the keyboard and mouse can be used to control movement.

And a ctrl-Z and control-Y function is already on my personal todo list.

What time zone are you in thai guy it always seems when your online im offline. And so forth. On a second note my Blood Elf one is almost complete. It will get to 12 wonderfully but I'm aiming for 20 which is very close :D

Est = gmt-5 :) Let me guess you are from germany and you are gmt + 1 or 2

Well I am befuddled.. I reinstalled my OS and now Questy doesn't seem to work with me. .Net Framework 4.0 and everything and it turns on with an error.. and then doesn't want to do anything else without giving off the same kind of error. I reinstalled over the same non-erased drive so I tried it with my last questy and a new one. Is there something else I am forgetting to do?

Error: Specified Argument was out of the range of valid values.
PArameter name: value.

EDIT 2: I hit continue and see if it works fine. Currently it stopped bitching and is working fine.. only a startup error.

Just uploaded the lastest bleeding edge version. Be careful, it might bleed through your computer monitor. (Hopefully this version will expunge your errors).

Give me a detailed minimap and a database that has all objective/quest locations and I'll be able to start on something....

I would love to know how to effectively use this. I have tried many times sitting there for hours only to screw it up and it wont work right. Is there any sorts of tutorials I could get my hands on? I realize there's a directions area which I follow but I am still a little confused. So a video walkthrough would be amazing.

I'd be extremely glad to assist with your request. Just one preliminary question.. the bugs might have been from previous versions .. can you try the latest versionand ssee if you are having difficulties still?

If you still are confusd with how to use the program and it has nothing to do with it being buggy, then please address in a wee bit of details what things you'd like to see in a video tutorial. I will promptly upload one per your request. It's just that this program evolves very quickly, thus outdating any videos I make. It might be best to make one when I'm confident that I have finished updating this program....

Why dont you work with Apoc together?

I ask him for questsupport and he say he have no time for this...

and you dont know how to realize it...

so why not a combo ?

O I would absolutely love to.. Need assistance with a obtaining a database of items/quest pickup,turnin,objective locations, if possible.
