Can blizzard use a screenshot of an item to filter for that specific items account? For example, items have a very specific set of random rolls on them. If I posted a Sunkeeper with 29% elite damage and 1598-1923 arcane damage, 876 vitality, and 967 strength, there can't be many items out there with those exact stats. Could Blizzard do a filter search if they saw that screenshot (like you do in excel) to narrow down the account and ban it? Thanks for any explanation on how this works! :)

If this is possible, might be a good idea to restrict posting item screenshots on the forums.

In theory, totally. If Blizzard cared.

Considering the fact that they don't even ban accounts that literally don't stop running G-rifts for 40+ hours straight, I really really don't think they care.
 
In theory: Yes, Blizzard could find you even tracking back the metadata in the image, knowing even where it came from...
In practice: They won't, the game is practically dead without the botters. They will maybe ban a couple because of being reported by a large ammount of people (to keep those people happy) and the obvious ones like the guy who forgot to stop/close DemonBuddy while streaming.
Latest news i heard is they are banning people in China servers too, but the source of that is not too reliable so...
 
yep its true. huge ban wave in china servers. coz they bot like crazy. china server has been online for about a year maybe. you see loads of account with 2000+ paragon lvl.
 
You likely did post an item with unique variables that could be traced back to your account. You have to ask yourself "does blizzard actually pay anyone to do the amount of work it would take to actually track this account down and ban it". The answer is likely no.
 
Just to add that if you are uncomfortable with doing something, then don't do it. Block out a stat number or two, otherwise just use d3planner and round it to the nearest 25.

There was definitely a ban wave in China with bans between 3 days and perma. It's unclear what people were actually doing though. I couldn't find a ban section on the demonbuddy.cn forums though so who knows. They also run a different version of the game than we do.

You can always use a simple program like Paint to cover up some of the stats or modify them slightly. Might defeat the purpose, but what is the need of posting an item anyways?

Copy the Primary stat and paste it over the Vitality stat. Takes 2 seconds, doesn't change the value of the item much. Now it' can't be tracked exactly to you.

I have posted items on the forums without any issues.

Now, if you were to post your GamerTag or pics of botting that contain it, I think that would be much more risky, but who knows...

As mentioned before, even extensive gameplay session don't get people banned often...

During the first RoS patch, I ran a character 24/7 for months. Only time I stopped it was checking out gear, but my PC had been restarted maybe 2 times over 90+ days. YAR kept it online otherwise. Right after they announced the first major RoS patch I got banned on that account.
