I know I shouldn't give two craps but, Last night I was roaming around doing nothing in particular when i came across a worgen on his/her mount running into a cliff wall. I tried to get his/her attention for a good 20 minutes. Casting spells and making noise. Whispering countless times. No response. I'm sure some douche reported him/her. That really sucks ballz. My warning is simple. Some of these profiles are not afkable. Watch your bot. I hate to read about people getting banned. I could be wrong as well. They could have just fallen asleep and hit their "num lock" key right? (yeah right) Be careful everyone.

Whenever I see someone who's OBVIOUSLY botting and stuck, I always try to whisper them in hopes they do what I do - use LogMeOut with Whispers set to 2-3. Assuming you are guilded, the idea of someone whispering you more than once is a pretty big sign they're trying to figure out if you're botting or not. Random people will whisper you first, usually like "Hey." "You there?" "Are you a bot?" If that doesn't work, well they're just out of luck and you can only hope for the best :\. People definitely need to be more careful and seriously USE LOGMEOUT and if its ever updated, NoMoveDetector. That way if you get stuck and LogMeOut doesn't realize it (This happened to me a few times with archaeology) NoMoveDetector will log you out after 15 minutes of being in the same position (it restarts HB after 5 mins then logs you off after 15).

Another good one is to use (if it's updated, haven't tried it recently) the ShutUp AIML. It'll automatically send them back a message (usually something that sounds stupid if you leave it at defaults) like if someone says certain key words like "would you like..." or "could you..." it'll say "no ty", or it'll reply "ty" or something like that. I always configure it to wait like 10 seconds then .2 seconds per key stroke, to seem real, before it replies. If it just has no idea what the person is saying, it defaults to the chat bot mode. I was using BGFarmer and monitoring it at the same time but I had ShutUp AIML loaded anyway. I think I was on my MW Monk using TuanHAs paid profile, and someone whispered me "bad ass healing man". It whispered him back before I could stop it "why are ass heals bad man?". He lol'd and said he meant badass, but then I took over and was like haha jk ty. But better to look like an idiot than an unresponsive bot. You can set it to soft ignore (ignore in plugin, not in game) the person after 1-2 responses too, so it won't just keep chatting wtih them. It will also (along with LogMeOut) play a loud tone of your choice when you receive a message, and can be configured to reply to a GM response with a particular message and immediately log off. Mine was always something like "sorry emergency g2g but plz email me okay? ty".
Also for BGs, you can set BGFarmer and I believe ShutUp AIML to watch Instance chat for your name being spoken. If its spoken, you can have it either reply (Not recommended) or have it /afk and log you out. Usually if someone is saying your name, they're like "xxxx is a bot, please report them". Better to immediately afk out of that BG to avoid more reports and log out then play it safe for awhile after that.
There are so many tools to monitor your bot and play it safe. I've been botting on my main account for over 2 years and have never had a single ban, not even 72 hours. That includes questing up 10 characters to 90 (soon all to 100, just stuck because msot of them are Horde), probably over 5k BGs with BGFarmer (NOT BgBuddy, I cannot warn against BGBuddy enough). I've gotten Conqueror on one char, Arathi Basin exalted tabard on three chars pre-nerf (250-300 games easy, each). BGFarmer can also be configured to say things like "inc LM", though I'd suggest against using the %enemies% (which says like "4 inc LM") because it seems weird, I notice people doing it in BGs and I immediately know they're using BG farmer. I just set mine to say "LM" "farm", etc. Just saying something like that a couple times per game makes you seem like a real person, along with using GOOD, paid routines. If you pop into a BG using BGBuddy and Singular, goodluck on that... not a good choice. And whatever plugins, routines and botbases you use, CONFIGURE THEM. Look through the settings, figure out what is there, what is useful, what might be unsafe, etc. You need to know what you are using and how it could get you caught so you can min/max your settings. When you make changes, monitor your bot for a couple hours at least, make sure the changes worked and aren't causing any side effects.
BUT JUST USE PLUGINS, FOR GOODNESS SAKE. THEY WILL SAVE YOUR ACCOUNT.

The thing is with us in the HB Family is that we can see if they bot or not because we often use same profiles or know how to bot acts.
If you whisper someone telling them to fix there bot or profile they might report you. And that person will know your botting to. Some ppl might report you because they are an arse.
Best way i believe is to use Logmeout as someone mentioned earlier.

Whenever you have tickets opened or people open tickets or report you. The GM staff that operates those tickets are aware of what people have claimed to of witness you of. People are reported all the time for cheating/exploiting. Even more people are reported for harassment and spamming/advertising. EVEN more people are reported for absolutely nothing at all. Only because the trolls have a button to click in order to do it. Almost like a digital way of trying to swat you. So they have plenty of flooded claims at any given moment.
The main thing to keep in mind is that... Behind all the glass on blizzards end. You are a paying customer. They'd much prefer to have paying customers get along with each other. If you are botting an area and you know for sure you have been reported. Stop botting there(afk atleast). That is probably the best thing to do. Don't go back. Even on different toons. Blizzard can still associate it that way. You might be ruining the fun of some 10 year legit Wow veteran who can't be corrupted and will ticket you because he has absolutely no life and believe that he is the best, will forever be the best, and is always better than you no matter what(sad to say but there are some people that are extremely too attached to this game in a seriously unhealthy way).
Blizzard has already stated that it deals with exploitation very seriously. Running a bot to do things on an account that any feasible human could do if he/she gave a damn and had the time and will power to do it, is a very small form of exploiting in comparison. They have bigger fish to fry. Much bigger fish. IE people who are not under VPN that are multibox botting and/or running multiple accounts and using bot networking to take over an economy and/or capitalize things that shouldn't be. Big deal botters lose accounts all the time. It isn't an issue for them because they were probably using wow gold to pay for the CD-keys and game time associated with that account. Blizzard also wins some too because if that botter wants to remain in business, he/she will end up creating a new network again.
There are plenty of posts in the forums about things to do to keep yourself from being banned or detected as a botter. Logmeout is nice but you also might want to remember that just because people whisper you, you are not inclined to have to whisper them back. I tell people all the time that I play in my living room on my 70" screen with the chatbox closed. I don't use wow chat because I talk to my wife and guests in real life as I play. I have no interest in chatting in game. I don't want your party invite. We are not on the same quest. Etc. etc.
Bottom line. Do not make yourself a target. Do things in moderation. be humble and nice to people you meet. I feel bad for some of the people who rot in front of their computers now and starve themselves on these games. I use to be there. I am glad I am not anymore.

I absolutely agree with the above post(s ). You are most certainly not inclined to whisper back and Blizzard is definitely aware of that and the fact that many legitimate players do not even chat in game at all. Though I'd say that sending a message back (even an automated one with ShutUp AIML) helps make you seem like less of a bot (even if it makes you seem like more of an idiot. "WHY ARE ASS HEALS BAD MAN?").
They're definitely overrun with tickets about botting. I know for a fact I've seen/heard people in BGs using the report for cheating button just because they think someone is bad. So just because someone uses that on you doesn't mean you'll be banned. Taking steps to figure out whether or not that was likely (such as using LogMeOut or BGFarmer to log out if your name was mentioned in chat, or monitoring the Tramper Whispery plugin at least) and then playing it easy if you do think its likely, is a good choice. I've been "reported" for botting before in BGs (back when I used bgbuddy lol) and never even heard anything back, not a ban or temp ban. Like the above poster said, unless you're running a huge bot farm or doing something totally dumb like farming instances non-stop, the likely hood of being banned really isn't that high if you take the right precautions.

Using public profiles like Kicks CAN get you banned, though I've leveled up 10 characters to 90 without a single issue with them, so I think it's just luck.
Everyone says that BG farming is a death sentence, but I've honestly found it to be the safest (though certainly not fastest) route to level up characters as long as you are using a paid botbase (BGFarmer) and a good routine (tuanHA's free ones are good if you don't want to pay, but they don't support all specs). Obviously you have to pay for a lot of this stuff, but these are developers who put a LOT of time and effort into ensuring their product works. Complain all you want about having to "pay for something that should be free with honorbuddy", but the HB devs provide the FRAMEWORK and some damn good free botbases. Outside of BGBuddy (which we all know isn't good anymore simply because it's too overused - not because it is bad in itself), the Questing bot base is FANTASTIC and the Kicks profiles are 100% free. AutoAngler (with WOD update) is free and FANTASTIC.
Every profile and plugin you use was someone spending hours programming, testing, bug finding, maybe even losing accounts to find issues so that you don't. So just remember that. The HB team provides the framework, the buddystore is a good addition to the community and in the end will allow the greatest devs to continue to do what they do, maybe even full time, to make your life easier. I personally am on the Millz BGFarmer beta test team and I see how hard Millz works on his bases and routines. It is NOT easy.
And just for the record, I'm a ten year WoW veteran. I started playing in December, 2004. I have nothing but love for all you buddies who automate things that are boring and stupid. Who the hell wants to quest to level up when that's the most boring and pointless part of the game? Why is it so damn hard to just do some PVP or raid and not have to do dailies, mess with your garrison (GARRISONBUDDY IS AMAZING, IF YOU HAVEN'T CHECKED IT OUT!), and all the stupid stuff they try to force you to do to stay current. Screw that, I play the game to ENJOY it, not have a second job.
Also to point out, if you see a fellow buddy and message them, don't ever use the word "buddy" or "hb" or something stupid like that. Just play dumb like you don't know they're botting and let them do the same. Chat logs are monitored, as you all know. I actually think there was someone in a raid I was in once using Tyr@el (now Enyo) and tuanHA (as was I) and I almost decided to say "so, is your favorite battle pet Tyr@el?", but decided against it. I think I agree with the fight club rules someone posted above.
Rule 1: Do not talk about or mention honorbuddy in game.
Rule 2: DO NOT TALK ABOUT OR MENTION HONORBUDDY IN GAME.
If you really want to ask someone in your guild you suspect, and you trust they won't report you, just ask them on facebook or skype or steam or something, even vent or mumble. Don't be an idiot. If someone asked me if I was "using enyo" in game, even if they were like "its cool me too" I'd be like "Is that an addon?". It's not worth risking your account. Freakin' talk about it out of in game chat all you want, but never in game.
And again, if you see a buddy stuck and in need, be a friend. Message them something silly like "lol man you got your autorun key stuck? you're running into that wall XD". Play it dumb but try to see if they have whisper alerts on. Obviously do not say anything that would make it seem like you bot too. Send 3-5 just incase they have LogMeOut set to whisper logout after a few. If they don't, well just hope they come back soon and learn their lesson if they get a 72 hour ban.

(4, 5, and 6 are on the buddystore. Others are on the forum)
Use those and you will be in good shape to protect your account. Also try to go to a low-pop, non connected realm if you can. I personally found one that has no connected realms and is low-med pop, PERFECT place quest bot if you're safe about it. But always monitor your bot for at LEAST few hours (preferably days) if you're using a new botbase or profile. Bugs happen in all code, issues will always be there, its up to you to make sure you get logged out if it happens and PLEASE post the log to the author of that plugin/botbase/profile so they can fix it if its something that needs to be fixed. You're only helping yourself and the entire community by submitting logs.
And again, please be kind to fellow buddies, but don't be stupid about it. Play it dumb, if they respond let them play it done, go your separate ways. In the in, this is not a competition, we are a community. We are in this together, helping build a better bot so we can all enjoy the game the way we like.

Using public profiles like Kicks CAN get you banned, though I've leveled up 10 characters to 90 without a single issue with them, so I think it's just luck.
Everyone says that BG farming is a death sentence, but I've honestly found it to be the safest (though certainly not fastest) route to level up characters as long as you are using a paid botbase (BGFarmer) and a good routine (tuanHA's free ones are good if you don't want to pay, but they don't support all specs). Obviously you have to pay for a lot of this stuff, but these are developers who put a LOT of time and effort into ensuring their product works. Complain all you want about having to "pay for something that should be free with honorbuddy", but the HB devs provide the FRAMEWORK and some damn good free botbases. Outside of BGBuddy (which we all know isn't good anymore simply because it's too overused - not because it is bad in itself), the Questing bot base is FANTASTIC and the Kicks profiles are 100% free. AutoAngler (with WOD update) is free and FANTASTIC.
Every profile and plugin you use was someone spending hours programming, testing, bug finding, maybe even losing accounts to find issues so that you don't. So just remember that. The HB team provides the framework, the buddystore is a good addition to the community and in the end will allow the greatest devs to continue to do what they do, maybe even full time, to make your life easier. I personally am on the Millz BGFarmer beta test team and I see how hard Millz works on his bases and routines. It is NOT easy.
And just for the record, I'm a ten year WoW veteran. I started playing in December, 2004. I have nothing but love for all you buddies who automate things that are boring and stupid. Who the hell wants to quest to level up when that's the most boring and pointless part of the game? Why is it so damn hard to just do some PVP or raid and not have to do dailies, mess with your garrison (GARRISONBUDDY IS AMAZING, IF YOU HAVEN'T CHECKED IT OUT!), and all the stupid stuff they try to force you to do to stay current. Screw that, I play the game to ENJOY it, not have a second job.
Also to point out, if you see a fellow buddy and message them, don't ever use the word "buddy" or "hb" or something stupid like that. Just play dumb like you don't know they're botting and let them do the same. Chat logs are monitored, as you all know. I actually think there was someone in a raid I was in once using Tyr@el (now Enyo) and tuanHA (as was I) and I almost decided to say "so, is your favorite battle pet Tyr@el?", but decided against it. I think I agree with the fight club rules someone posted above.
Rule 1: Do not talk about or mention honorbuddy in game.
Rule 2: DO NOT TALK ABOUT OR MENTION HONORBUDDY IN GAME.
If you really want to ask someone in your guild you suspect, and you trust they won't report you, just ask them on facebook or skype or steam or something, even vent or mumble. Don't be an idiot. If someone asked me if I was "using enyo" in game, even if they were like "its cool me too" I'd be like "Is that an addon?". It's not worth risking your account. Freakin' talk about it out of in game chat all you want, but never in game.
And again, if you see a buddy stuck and in need, be a friend. Message them something silly like "lol man you got your autorun key stuck? you're running into that wall XD". Play it dumb but try to see if they have whisper alerts on. Obviously do not say anything that would make it seem like you bot too. Send 3-5 just incase they have LogMeOut set to whisper logout after a few. If they don't, well just hope they come back soon and learn their lesson if they get a 72 hour ban.
Again for anyone who is curious, good plugins (including some I forgot):

2. NoMoveDetector
3. ShutUp AIML

4. theTramper Targeteer (lets you know who targeted you and when, helpful for quest botting or grinding)
5. theTramper whispery
6. PushHub (sends a push notification to your phone on certain customizable events like whispers, bot stopping, level up, death, profile changes, etc. This plugin was made by Mirabis, who also makes some KICK ASS routines for druids. He is a great developer, one of the best).

Use those and you will be in good shape to protect your account. Also try to go to a low-pop, non connected realm if you can. I personally found one that has no connected realms and is low-med pop, PERFECT place quest bot if you're safe about it. But always monitor your bot for at LEAST few hours (preferably days) if you're using a new botbase or profile. Bugs happen in all code, issues will always be there, its up to you to make sure you get logged out if it happens and PLEASE post the log to the author of that plugin/botbase/profile so they can fix it if its something that needs to be fixed. You're only helping yourself and the entire community by submitting logs.
And again, please be kind to fellow buddies, but don't be stupid about it. Play it dumb, if they respond let them play it done, go your separate ways. In the in, this is not a competition, we are a community. We are in this together, helping build a better bot so we can all enjoy the game the way we like.
