Normal?

I am new to honor buddy so I am not sure if this is a normal thing. For my first power level I decided to level a warrior. I was not sure if I wanted to level horde or alliance so I started with Horde first. The first guide I used was horde 1-60 by bliik. After a short time using the guide, my character became stuck over and over again. Also he would go into areas where mobs were 2+ levels higher then himself and die over and over again. After 3+ hours of this running I had only reached level 5 and died over 30 times. After a bit of frustration I decided to switch to alliance and use the 1-60 hawker alliance guide. It seems that the character follows paths that are way out of the way, for example he will accept a quest and run all the way to the other side of the zone then decide he actually wants to do the quest and run back and start doing it.. Also on the quests where you have to kill X amount of mobs he will run right by mobs he needs to kill. Then on some quests he tries to get to where he needs to go by running through a mountain and just starts running in circles.

I am not using any CC's .. nor know what they even are.
I dont have it set to mine or herb because I didnt want it to get confused or drag me into packs of mobs for no reason.
I dont have it set to use a mount because im less then level 20..

Am I doing something wrong? Should I hand level until 20 then bot? Should I just use the grind setting to level up higher before I start trying to quest?

Any feedback would be amazing, I am really looking forward to learning more about this program and all of its possibilities.
