Made a thread a bit ago about a computer I was building. I changed it quite a bit because I will be using it for botting and misc things.

i7 3770k
GTX 660
16 GB 1600 RAM
Decent Mobo
after market cooling
Case

What I am having trouble with is the case. It has a red SATA cable coming from the front panel (where the front usb's and power button is) and I have no clue what to do with it. The mobo itself has the SATA III connection where I usually put my Hard Drive in other computers. What does this cable do..? It looks like it is connected to the power button.

Have everything else installed except this cable and a few misc wires from the front panel that I have to read up on.

it's not connected to the powerbutton. it's the connection to the esata port on your frontpanel. if you don't need esata just leave it unconnected.

^^ This. I doubt you'll ever require eSATA so leave it unplugged :3. Just keep it tidy hah.

Sigh I don't know what to do now. I turn it on and it stays on for 8 seconds then turns off and restarts. Does this until I stop. I have plugged in everything to a T.

The hell do I do

will it display something on your monitor? where did you connect your monitor to - discrete gpu or mainboard graphic (cpu)?

alot of new mainboards have lights that will display an error code, check that. if not your mainboard might beep?

Does it load the BIOS? If not it's a dead PSU, if so your HDD is probably fucked up.

I hooked everything up, CD drive, video card, HD, Ram, network adapter etc. I powered it on and the 3 fans all came on along with the blue LED light. It stayed on for about 8 seconds, then shuts off then repeats an endless cycle. I hooked up the monitor to the video card, no go, then the mobo, no go. I am thinking that the stock cooler the i7 came with was not seated properly (my fault). I actually broke it taking it out. Thank god my other one comes in tomorrow. I shouldn't have loaded everything at once. Next time I will only start it with the RAM, HD, and mobo. Nothing else. Also, the mobo came with a CD. If I boot it up do I need to put in the CD? Or will it take me directly to bios without the CD. I ask this because I will be starting this with the CD drive disconnected. Also, the monitor showed nothing and I am using a Corsair 600w 80+. Any other suggestions? Can't do anything until i get my other cooler tomorrow. How do you test a PSU manually?

Also, ONE more thing.

On the PSU, on the end of the line with the 4 pin molex, it has a small 4 pin female end that looks like it plugs into a fan on the mobo. However, I do not have a PWR fan header on the mobo just CPU fan, and 3 SYS_FAN headers. In the guide, it just says 3 system fan headers and not much more. Do I need to plug the power supply end into one of these? It looks like it has 2 of these fan plugins.

Thanks

Not That I Am Trying To Tell You To Do It Yourself. But When I Put Together My Computers, I Found That The Manuals Were Actually Very Helpful. Even After Building Several Myself. They All Are Slightly Different And The Manuals Usually Tell You Where Things Go. As For The Boot Up, I Would Try And Troubleshoot On Youtube And See If Anyone Else Had Similar Problems. Seeing Is A Lot Easier Than Reading.

My advice:

1. Take it apart, carefully unplugging everything that is plugged in(not the CPU, tho, if you do not have good thermal grease / do not know how to use it). So leave your CPU/heasink as they are.
2. Put the empty mobo on the table.
3. Put in your memory, GPU and everything else you need.
4. Put your MOBO in the case and secure it with the screws/whatever you've got.
5. Plug in ONLY the stuff you'll need to go in the BIOS. This means no HDD/SSD.
6. This is how you know whether or not your MOBO/CPU/PSU/GPU/MEMORY work fine. Then plug in the HDD/SSD and try to boot the OS.
7. After you get in the OS, turn off and plug in the rest of your stuff, such as CD/DVD etc.

Conclusion: start from scratch and you will most likely succeed. Cheers

Thanks

Had the problem exactly you have :)
What cooler do you use? My solution was to unplug cpu-cooler screw beneath the RAM and CPU cuz it were blocking the contact of ram with cpu. Hope you get what im trying to say. Anyway try to start with everything but cpu cooler.

Also dont forget to plug-in CPU power cable from your PS. Its 4pin probably and 660 gtx has 6+2pin connector.

My GTX does not have a 2 pin connector.

It came with a 4 pin (could be 6 or 8 I forget)that branched off into 2x 4 pin molex

However my PSU comes with a PCI-E 4 pin cable that just plugs in into the gfx card.

Pretty sure I can just use the PSU to plug directly into the gfx card rather than have to plug the 2x 4 pin molex into the PSU

Okey you can check everything outside tha case, just use the anty static mat to place mobo.

Start with just plugging psu to cpu to give power, next the general power molex, place ram in slots. Now try to start it with monitor conected to mobo. Most mobo have build in power switch. .if not just short the pins where power button go it should start.
This the basics you need it should load bios.

New cooler and same thing. I took it all out and tried it as suggested. It appears the CPU fan flickers on then turns off while the other fans are still on. What does that mean. I'm going to test a new PSU with it. Any thoughts.

No go on the new PSU. It's either mobo CPU or ram. Tired of this bullshit
