I also used to be worried about this. If blizzard logs your IP address and bans that way, then heck, even if you logged on your main without the bot there is a chance of getting screwed. What i do, is have 2 seperate WoW folders, one for my main account which does not get botted on, and one for my other accounts which do get botted on. This way if blizzard checks the logs or anything else going on, at least i feel like there is some security knowing that at least log wise, my main account has not been touched by the bot.

I personally dont believe that blizzard bans via IP though, simply because there are households where an entire family would and will play. I could be dead wrong, but i have been banned over multiple accounts and by brother has never been affected.

And yes if you have multiple accounts linked via Bnet, the Bnet account gets banned not the individual account in question.[/QUOTE]
The underlined statement is false. Only accounts in question get banned not the entire bnet.

This is not 100% true. I have had a detection of 3rd part software ban (i wont say what I was running) but only the account that had been active and using the software got slapped. The other accounts on the same B-net were left alone. It could be because it was a automated detection vs a GM investigation. However I did dispute it. It did get investigated and still the other account remains untouched.

Please don't think that i tried to sound like i genuinely knew what i was talking about. My accounts have never been linked, however i have at least 3 RL friends who (since having their accounts linked) have had all acounts banned for only botting on one.

Could just be that they are unlucky or they got a GM that cared to investigate or who knows. Can anyone confirm that they have had one account on their Bnet perma banned without the others being affected?

I've had 1 of my Bnet accounts get permanent banned while 2 others in same bnet remained untouched.

interesting, i guess my pals were just unlucky haha. good to know though that it doesnt screw with every account that is linked

Basically Blizzard will decide to do whatever they want. Just because some people are able to get away with playing under certain conditions doesn't mean that everyone will be so lucky.

I was talking to a person from billing and accounts last night at blizzard in regards to getting an account back that wasn't in my name, So i asked can you please just check the IP address's so you can see who was on the account. Turns out, they cannot take action against anything IP related due to many people having the same IP address. but, I still got my account back cause im good as sweet talking them ;) lol! But you should be fine mate, I've never had a problem

They might not ban by IP but they probably use it as a means to investigate other accounts. Especially if they are running at the same time.

I use GB and HB on 2 other accounts while I play on main. Usually doing heroics or wintergrasp .

farming computer

- internet connection via proxy server
- modified mac address
- 3 accounts farming

main char computer

- standard internet connection
- playing with main char

every char is on his own battlenet account, registered with different names, paid with game cards. Botting since several years now and never got any problems with my main account. Several farm accounts/chars got banned some time ago (good old glider and openbot times XD)

i voted hell yeh:) you main account isnt at risk at all because you play legit on it

If blizzard suspects you of botting and a GM manually investigates the matter and notices multiple accounts running off the same IP or same MAC address then any one of those accounts is fair game for suspensions or bans even if a bot has never been used on one or more of the accounts.

I cant see how this can be true as any PC within the same private LAN will externally appear as the same IP address of the Default Gateway which is your router. Also it is possible to use internet sharing so that two different computers will appear to use the same MAC address as they are both using the same NIC (Network Interface Card).

I usually do most of my botting while hand playing my main account but i use a seperate computer for my bot any way

the bot that runs with account A will get banned, but if account B is being played with the hand on the same pc. it will get banned, if not chances are low you will get caught on account B

Read in a blue somewhere a while ago that only the WoW account that violates the terms of usage will get actioned.
Even if the're on the same Battle.net account.
That means your "main account" will be safe as you long as you don't bot, cheat etc on it, no matter how much you abuse your bot account.
But, that policy could be changed now more for all I know.

That's the official stance, yes, but they can (and have in the past) closed associated accounts too.

Blizzard cant trace your MAC. Only IPs, That being sad if you trully want to be safe, get second computer and different IP on it, and you are fine, no one here really knows exactly how blizzard works, they often do different things, there is many posts about how blizard banned multiple bots on the same PC and how from several bots banned only 1 or few more..

Blizzard cant trace your MAC.
Yes they can. Just the same way they can check out your hardware id's, etc. The only question is if they actually send that data over to bnet and do something with it :)

is it me or does hb get very buggy when i am playing my main in full screen mode even though it is attached to a windowed copy . I would love to bot and play my main at the same time but when i am on my main the bot just dies.......alot

At the moment, the majority of account bans are due to non-human behaviour in the game. If blizzard were to actually detect the bot running, you would probably find your main account would be banned, your botting accounts would be banned, and everyone else in the community would be banned because when blizzard find a method for proper bot detection, they collect data ready for a mass ban. Non-human behaviour on one account doesn't really allow them to justify banning your main unless they're clearly linked with gold selling or whatever.
