Hi,

I just hit 85 with a new character, and I want to skill Skinning now for the passive bonus.
However, this is on my main account and I plan on raiding with this character.

On my way to 85, I've sometimes started Questbot, but I've been monitoring it (watching a movie meanwhile). What I wonder is, if I get caught for skinning bot, does it matter if this is the first time they catch me for botting, and does it matter if it's Skinning instead of, for example, battlegrounds?

I don't want to get permanent banned, and I just want to get Skinning to 525, then I'm not botting on my main anymore. I will monitor the skinning. What is the risk? What is the punishment?

If you get caught and punished, they will not punish you any more or any less based upon if you were botting a profession or battlegrounds. (I think)
I have never been caught botting as of yet (Fingers crossed) but i assume that it would be a 72 hour suspension for the first time as it is when caught buying/selling gold.

I think Blizzard think botting is worse than buying gold. They can easily remove the gold, but they don't know how much you've been botting.

Neither have I been banned, ever, and well, I have been botting since Glider.
Although I have never botted for gold, only leveling/grinding(back in the Glider days there only was grinding profiles), and bgs.

You will be fine, I leveled mining 1 to 525 on my dk when I got the bot back in september, then over the course of 2 months put nearly 35 days in game played time botting ore. You will be fine. Besides, when you level a skinning, you will rarely be around people.

It feels like I don't use the bot even close to what I could.
On my main account:
I'm online ~15 hrs per day, sometimes less, sometimes more.
Max 3 hours of botting, and then it's 90% of the times Questing, sometimes BGs or skinning. (then also occasionally an hour night questing)
I do raids, achievements, dailys, dungeons on a couple 85s.

A GM could just fly next to me while skinning and it would take one minute before he would be sure I'm botting, with the 180 degree moves and such.
When I go to bed I put the bot on questing on my (currently) level 81 character, but I use LogMeOut and tell him to log out in top 1.5 hours.

This sounds so little, and I've read alot here, seems like most people bot alot more than that without ever getting banned... :-D

Is there somewhere I can find some information about Blizzards way of detecting botters? Like, online time, or time spent in zones, no chatting on x hrs.. :-)

I have been botting for like 3 or 4 years now.

Never been banned.

The only time I got banned was because I sold my gold to a chinese gold buyer which had a chinese IP and blizzard doesn't like that shit.

You can bot and get skinning to 525, just don't bot 24/7, it seems not human, because a normal person with a job would probably only play the game a few hours, like 3 or 4 per day.

The way I see it is the game isn't much fun to actually play so I'll just keep botting all the time and when I actually have friends on to play I'll play by hand to do some 10min dungeons or an hour raid. If I get banned it's no big deal because GW2 is around the corner.
