Laptop lagging

Hi there

I have a quite decent gaming laptop with a GTX 580m, 8GB ram and an i7-2630QM @ 2.00GHz, but whenever I try to have two diablo clients running I lag bad.

My power options thing is set to maximum and I am plugged in. Laptop lags even worse without even having multiple clients opened... anyway

my CPU usage is 40-70% and ram usage is at 75%. So why is it lagging this bad?

I'm clearly not a computer genius, so any advice would be appreciated :)

Kind regards

Alexander

NOTE: I'm currently running a wow client and honorbuddy as well, but it's laggy as fuck.. I can't even watch an episode of Stargate without it lagging badly in VLC :(

I'm no computer genius either but ram usage at 75% sounds weird.
Did you try doing a clean windows install ?

Yes I have, I actually do so every few months or so..

here are the main processes:
wow.exe - 1,075 GB
diablo III.exe - 0,998 GB
diablo III.exe - 0,745 GB
firefox.exe - 0,286 GB
svchost - 0,220 GB
Steam.exe - 0,135 GB
Honorbuddy.exe - 0,093 GB
Skype.exe - 0,086 GB
Demonbuddy - 0,086 GB
Demonbuddy - 0,077 GB

Anyway.. it ads up to about 4GB, so I dont understand why it says it's using 75% (which should be 6gb..)

Don't forget that windows eats up another 1gb or so, even more if you run vista.

Windows 7 here. I hate that it doesn't show up in processes...

EDIT: Just shut off one of the D3's and therefore also one of the DB's.. it's still running 70% usage :S what the hell?

Looks like you're running world of warcraft. also says demon buddy is using up some of your cpu.

I would try restarting your computer.

If you have a virus scanner, there is a chance there is a virus that it isn't finding. try using Spybot - Search & Destroy from Safer Networking to see if you have any spyware/viruses doing some damage to your performance.

You'll also want to disable pagefile. My friends 3d glasses stopped working because they suffered extreme performance issues and all he had to do was disable pagefile to get everything working flawlessly.

superfetch/prefetch is another thing I disable because I have loads of RAM, have pagefile disabled, and have a SSD. pagefile and superfetch/prefetch counteract each other and make your computer slower than faster.

You might also want to check your anti virus settings. If you have your live file scanner/application monitor/firewall set on higher settings than normal, It will easily bog your computer down to a halt.

My Avast! Anti-Virus is at it's default settings so I don't think that's it.

I'm currently downloading Spybot and I'll report back once i've tried it.

I will also look into that pagefile and superfetch/prefetch things, I guess google will help me there :)

Thanks

Because Demonbuddy uses more CPU than a full-blown D3 client. Saying this will probably get me banned.

edit: I just got flagged for a community infraction from Tony for "bitching" about DB, apparently I was "offensive".

edit 2: My post count is down. Someone has gone through my history and deleted several of my posts.

try changing diablo3 compatibility to windows xp sp3, (right click the shortcut) and disable visual themes, and make sure its running from the geforce video card and not the onboard one.

i did those things and worked for me, (xps15/6gb/750gb/i7/gt540m)

How exactly do I make sure it's running from the geforce video card instead of the onboard one?

when you right click the shortcut it will say, run with geforce or run with normal video.

nono, when you right click it, you get a menu come up correct? where u can go to properties etc etc.

at the top of the very first menu, it says `run with geforce blah blah` or run with normal.

at least, thats what happens on my laptop im only presuming you have intel graphics card onboard as well as the gforce same as me?

I dont know whether or not I have an intel graphics card onboard. I only have the option to "Run" and to "Run as Administrator" :/

Does your laptop have intel on board graphics or just the 540m? If it just has the 540 then just use the run in xp compatible mode and disable visual themes, this should help. At least it boosted mine enormously.

I'm not sure if it has intel on board graphics, and it's a 580m, not a 540 :)

Spybot has been run, it found 3 issues of which all have been resolved.
Pagefile has been disabled.
Moving on to superfetch/prefetch now. What is the consequence of disabling this? You say that you disable it because you have loads of RAM and a SSD, I have 8 GB ram and a SSHD which is somewhere between a SSD and a HDD.

Even after a reboot, and closing all of my installed programs(i think), it is using 20% of the RAM. How is that? http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/611/4f45a4169c714cc09f27134.png
