Didn't they patch and change items to roll according to monster level? Then wouldn't you want to pick up all rare items, since they are the same as ilvl 63? I can't find the answer to this question anywhere and I don't want to slow down if this isn't worth it. Let me know please!

I don't recall ever seeing that in patch notes, but, also curious if someone has any facts related to this :)

From patch 1.0.5:

Affixes on items will now roll their level based on the level of the monster killed rather than the item's level (this applies to all items including random affixes on Legendary and set items)

With that said: I have never, and I do mean never, seen a level 58 or 59 item come anywhere near what a 60+ can (With one caveat, rings/amulets). Hell, I have never seen any rare other than a 63 come even remotely close to being anything worthwhile to either use or sell. Frankly, it's far more likely that the only thing you are going to do is slow down your bot. The chances that a 58/59 item is going to roll what for it would be godly stats, is nigh impossible. It's bad enough 99% of the legendaries you find are junk, let alone the crap that 99.99% of rares are even at the 60+ range.

ye you can find such items but chance is VERY low
i find on gah for example

Hey guys, I continued to research this and found about the best info possible about this, as it is very unclear

TLDR; basically explains that ilvl determines the "base" roll and mlvl determines the "top" roll. Say ilvl 58 has a min roll of +5 and ilvl 63 has a min roll of +25 with mlvl 63 having max roll of +100, the 58 has a larger range (5-100 vs. 25-100) and therefore less likely to roll quality. Multiply that by 6 stats on a single item and it becomes clear that a superb level 58 item is HIGHLY unlikely.

Unfortunately even with this information the question remains, although a bit refined - are 61's and 62's worth the time to pick up? Not sure.

EDIT: I may be interpreting this a little wrong, I'm at work so I'm time crunched... here's a quote that contradicts what I said above.

mlvl dictates the range of available affixes and ilvl dictates the affix level (deciding the stat value). In other words, mlvl decides the minimum and maximum possible rolls and ilvl dictates the exact stat value.

Either way, the important part (lower levels can roll high affixes, although much much less probable) is correct.

Also helpful...
If you have a level 62 (or lower) item from a lvl 63 monster, each affix appears to have about a 10% chance of rolling at the top range.
So your chance to get all 6 affixes in the top range would be 10%6 or 0.0001%
Of course, the 0.0083% chance you have on a 6-affix lvl 63 item (45%6) might not look too attractive either, but this is 83 times more likely to find 6 affixes that are all at the top range.
In other words if your first priority was to toss anything that didn't have all 6 affixes at max range, and someone gave you a choice between 13 unidentified ilvl 63s or 1000 unidentified lvl 62s, you're more likely to find what you want in the small pile of ilvl 63s.
