If you buy a server for example you get free 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 IPv6 addresses

Well apperently the login servers still use ipv4 so this isn't quite the info that's usable but still it's interesting to see how many ipv6 addresses are obtainable and if some people use it so my question is do the people who bot actually use ipv6?

So alot of people have been saying that running alot of bots on 1 ip address will get you banned earlier if they find one bot for example they will check rest on ip/pc aswell.

If you buy a server for example you get free 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 IPv6 addresses

That means normally 20 accounts 1 ip all banned after gm checks out then with this 2 accounts per ip only 2 banned at a time.

I'd like your opinions on this and if it would work against multiple bans?
the problem is not everyone is on ipv6, and right now chances are to get to most sites your going to go though a ipv5 gateway so you would lose all that cool, i got one address 1 device thing.
if your going to get banned its not going to be IP Based.

Its impossible to be IP based because my whole country is dynamic IP

Yeah well I ment this for the hardcore botters that bot with quite a few bots 20+

I think that bans are ip based but only if you run a high ammount of bots I mean they don't automatically ban you for using a certain ammount of bots but if you get 1 banned they will likely check how many more you run.
Just saying if you run 5000 bots on 1 ip address I bet they will ban them all ofcourse nobody runs that many on 1 ip but i'm just saying it throws a bit of a flag that cannot be legit thing.

To above about dynamic ips if you have 5 bots and you bot on all and ur ip address change then all those 5 bots are on a new ip and is same for all 5 bots if you get banned and gm is able to check if other 4 accounts bot on your ip then you lose all 5 accounts this would reduce that chance I hope.

This would be mainly to reduce the chance of mass bans by spreading bots on different ips.

I've been playing on IPv6 for quite some time.
I've noticed better latency everywhere, even if my IPv6 is tunneled thru protocol41. I quess the internet is faster in the world over IP6 :)

From the botter perspective:
Login servers are still using IPv4. You get on IPv6 only after you are in game. If Blizz is monitoring IP adresses on login servers, you won't get anything from botting on IPv6 except maybe better latency :/

Also, I quess Blizz in not stupid, and they could be monitoring whole /64 IPv6 network, which is what you usually get from provider.

Well atleast it's a nice discussion I have no need for the addresses so it doesn't really bother me.

Maybe in a few years when all the addresses are completely depleted then we can bot without this problem :P.

I didn't know they still used ipv4 for the login servers :(

If anyone wants to comment on why they use ipv6 or if they use it feel free to :P primary use for this thread is gone.

yes but the ipv6 blocks are logical based. It's something like

[provider][region1][region2][customer][personal]
and only the last block changes and all of the last block belongs to one customer

so blizzard just has to cut of the last block because they know all of these ips belong to one customer.
For me this can't be a security increase because the just have to look if there is a other with the same ip (just without the last block)

Okay my cuttings are wrong but it should be enough to describe what I mean

exactly they know that whole block is ownership of one customer so they just count all addresses in same block as one

they will still ban you as if you used same address

on the other hand since IPv6 are plentiful maybe you can get multiple blocks, like get number of addresses usually given to 1024 customers and not one customer, in that case you could be safe from IP based blocks

I was reading about this protocol and one of the key features is that by default it send your ip to who ever you connect too this is done by your isp

What ever ip you connect to with your isp that is what is sent

Another key feature is that it increases the amount big time as we are running out of addresses this is why it is now getting used

Blizzards servers are setup for it to read ipv4 to ipv6 or to ipv6 to ipv4 when they added it they had a 12 hour downtime and patched the game as well

Also it all depends on how your isp is setup as well it could be using both

Also it sends the mac address as well

Exchanging traffic between the two protocol requires a translator...It all comes back to if your isp can do it or not they would have that installed to send the hex numbers
