Why do you still recommend the HB Installer? Why do you make an HB updater that doesn't wipe the folder clean before installing the new version of HB? With the introduction of the BuddyStore, it seems a folder wipe wouldn't be a bad idea with every new update.

there is no need for a folder wipe imo,why we should do it that way?

Because most of us end up having to do clean installs after every update anyway. I agree that the bot update process could use a bit of a tuneup, as I don't think I've ever successfully updated without having to do a clean install afterwards due to issues.

Hi guys,

Some of us have had similar experiences with the Updater, and understand your frustration. .754 was supposed to have repaired a problem for those of use that use UAC in Windoze. Let's see if that repairs the issue (when the .755+ version rolls around).

Please follow-up when that day arrives. Be specific as to what failed for you: "compile problems when running quest bot", "exceptions being thrown by the updater", etc.

We've written several bug reports against the Updater in the past. Things improved, but not even close to where it should be for many of us.

If no joy, I've already got a draft bug report begging for something to be done. Having the Updater do a full 'clean install' is almost a nuclear option, but its to the point there may be nothing left to do but that.

cheers,
chinajade

TY very much CJ for an informative response.
We patiently wait for a fix.
most of have no clue what all goes into developing software of this size. frustration comes fast and doesnt go away quickly.

Exactly what Frost said. I have total respect for all who work on HB, especially under the hood.

Usually it's compiling errors that are the biggest problem for me personally, so my guess is old files don't get removed during the update process. I have zilch programming experience, though.

I've always wondered if HB updates could function somewhat like an SVN, but that method seems a bit more appropriate for individual documents and files that aren't necessarily connected heavily like a program.

I have a feeling things might smooth out once the Buddy Store really gets going. Aside from private profiles, the folder could probably be wiped and immediately re-downloaded from the Buddy Store with no input from the user.

That, or perhaps we could have the ability to link files/folders outside of the HB directory so the updater could pull from them without worrying about the contents of the folder?

I have no idea. Just rambling, honestly. I'd love to throw around ideas from an end-user viewpoint, though! :)
