Hi there!
In this thread I would like to gather some information about what it takes to run a successful mass botting operation, covering everything from computer hardware to storage of gold.
Keep in mind that my knowledge of running a large botting operation is limited, and most of what will be written here will be based on your comments and the knowledge from other more seasoned botters.
I'll start off with what I currently have and how things are going for me:
Computer setup:
Computer 1 (Server):
- 2 x Xeon Quad E5345 2,33GHz Processor
- 8 GB 5300 DDR2 RAM
- AMD Radeon HD 5570 Graphics Card
Computer 2:
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2,66GHz Processor
- 6 GB 5300 DDR2 RAM
- GeForce GT 530 Graphics Card
Post 6.0.2 these computers run nine and five bots respectively without any major hiccups.
Botting setup:
Computer 1 (Server):
No VMware, no VPN, all running on the same IP-address 10-14 hours a day - 0 bans.
9 x World of Warcraft settings on lowest, 20FPS background and foreground.
9 x Honorbuddy
1 x ARelog
Computer 2:
No VMware, no VPN, all running on the same IP-address 10-14 hours a day - 0 bans.
5 x World of Warcraft settings on lowest, 20FPS background and foreground.
5 x Honorbuddy
1 x ARelog
Control and supervision:
Software KM-switch called Synergy to control all computers using one mouse and one keyboard. Using one screen per computer, I'm able to see what's going on with all the bots, and I can easily unstuck or restart any bot using Synergy.
Synergy allows up to 15 computers to be controlled with one mouse and one keyboard, reducing the amount of cables and space needed.
Gold storage and distribution:
The last couple days I've been using two guild bank characters (one for a guild leader and one for disposable characters), running on two separate accounts under a private VPN. I get the gold from the farming characters to the gold bank like this:
1. Trade gold from all farming characters over to one single farming character
2. Move said character to an area with a guild bank
3. Create a new character on the "disposable characters"-account, and move it to the bank
4. Invite the new character to the guild from your guild leader account
5. Trade gold from farming character to disposable character in several trades of around 50k
6. Deposit gold from disposable character into guild bank
7. Log out and delete disposable character.
This seems to be working for me so far, but a couple days of testing is not really enough. I'll update if anything changes.
Ideas for new computer hardware setups:
Keep in mind I've only spent around 20-30 minutes setting up a sort of cheap system able to run at least five bots. I would love to get some input on how to reduce cost, which hardware can be exchanged for something cheaper and where to get cheaper parts.
Seeing as I'm Norwegian, and looking at prices on Norwegian websites, these prices will be higher than most other countries.
Hardware:
- Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB 2.5" OEM - $90
- MSI 970A-G43, Socket-AM3+ Motherboard - $100
- In Win EA040 Midi Tower Black - $60 (Can
- XFX Radeon HD 6450 1GB DDR3 - $55
- AMD FX-8320 Black Edition 3,50GHz 8-Core - $200 (I'm guessing this is overkill and can be replaced with something cheaper. Ideas please)
- Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 1600MHz 8GB - $135
- Corsair CX 500W PSU - $60
Total Cost excluding screen and cables: $700
This is all I have so far. What I now want to know is how to improve on what I have, what are the do's and dont's, how do I increase security, what costs can I shave down on and so on and so forth.
If you have any pointers, ideas, or anything you believe could be of value to someone who's planning on doing mass botting, please leave a comment.
I will update this post with relevant information and guidance from comments and other posts I can find.
If there's anything you would like me to include or if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment.
Happy botting!
