pretty much essential. a good way to check to see if a item is required is to check to see if the top 10 on the leader boards all have the same item slotted.

It's definitely a must for botting.
It only takes one crazy coincidence to ruin a perfect rift. And it happens more than you think. I did extensive testing in Season 5 where two bots used non-ancient illusory boots, while I used ancient boots on the other two for a week. I took note of the statistics and then swapped the two around so the original ones with boots were running without and vice versa. It made a pretty noticeable difference even though the illusory boots weren't ancient.
