the weekly hardware thread, sorry^^

yesterday i installed my new board + i7

- fresh win7 64bit updated and activated
- gpu updated
- win7 optimized
- d3 prefs optimized
- trinity settings tps reduced, cache refresh lowered
- overclocking with mb features
- heat is ok (noctua cooler)

the only thing i can imagine:

- 6 D3 installs on my SSD but not enough space so the other d3 clients are on normal hdd.
- and i have a problem with my RAM, inserted 4x 8, but it only shows 16 in total
- gpu too weak

where should i continue?

I can easily get 9 without OC it.

you probably installed your ram wrong. check your bios, and your manual

can u give a percentage for ram and cpu usage

8 bots = fine, 60 percent cpu usage and 12 of 16 gb ram usage
9 bots = very laggy
10 bots = kill, but still between 70 and 95 % cpu and ram not maxed

how could i install my ram wrong? just klick and go... :)

which point in bios can i check? btw: already disabled every energy saving option in win7 and bios

RAM can sometimes not be seated properly, even if it looks/feels perfectly installed. Not to say I agree with the statement that your RAM is likely the issue.

well, depends on the mobo, but you can install it incorrectly
if you have 4 8gs, but only 16 shows, you probably installed it wrong.
im not really sure what your problem or question is

how much cpu per bot demonbuddy / game?

I've got 11 on my 3770k stock settings, 32gb ram. Goes from 80%-100% use, 17gigs of ram used.

D3 takes between 1 and 5 percent cpu usage, db takes between 1 and 2% (each)
removed 1 ram and now it is only 4 gb shown -.-

i just thought that 10 d3 is working fine with my new cpu, thats the problem ^^

Had a similar issue with amd fx-6300 of my friend. 6 games +db were running stable, but nr.7 broke the deal. Turned out to be the d3prefs file. Of course, this is might not have anything to do with settings of d3. Just to be sure, tho, get rid of the d3prefs you use now, by clicking DEFAULT in options. Close all games first, then start a game and choose default, save and quit. Next, open your d3prefs and edit the following 3 things:
1.FPS

LimitForegroundFPS "1"
MaxForegroundFPS "15"
LimitBackgroundFPS "1"
MaxBackgroundFPS "15"

2. Terrain filtering

DisableTrilinearFiltering "1"

3. Graphics intensity

MipBias "6.999999" (this is what i currently use; default in the "popular" d3prefs is MipBias "9.999999", you can use whichever you like)

This is literally everything that the d3prefs you downloaded changes. But now you use the one your own game generates, having the same tweaks integrated.

One more thing, you said you have 6 games on the ssd and the rest are on the hdd.. Now, why would you do that? There is the d3starter that starts the game from the same install. I strongly recommend you use that. Delete all the instances from your ssd and hdd, only leaving one on the ssd. Use that one!

Further information might help as well.. What is your motherboard and GPU? Maybe your mobo does not support quad channel memory(that is why it displays 16).

this is the wrong direction O.o

motherboard and gpu is found in 2nd screenshot

/edit: ok, it seems i failed in choosing this MB

Hello Sir,

This is not compatible.

Thanks for your question.

Strange, it should not be worse with this setup, because this is the right way to do things. It actually makes me that more certain, there is something wrong with your pc setup, dude ;) This mobo is nice, it supports dual channel, but this means you should be able to put in four sticks of ram and run it as dual channel or single channel mode.
Maximum internal memory: 32 GB
Supported memory module capacities: 16GB, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB
And you have four sticks of 8GB each, right? Should work just fine.. Is it 32GB of ram(16 Usable) or windows recognizes just 16GB? How about the BIOS? How about cpu-z's SPD tab- it has the option to check each slot? Also, what is your win7 exactly? Apparently the Home editions support up to 16GB of memory. What make/model are your RAM sticks? Is your CPU overclocked? Have you changed any of the settings in the BIOS setup, or everything runs by default? Please check those and post again :)

@ harmacintyre:

this is stupid. i have similar stats with 5 bots...

please try 5 bots more and then we can keep talking

@ad3ddd: what now? switched back to old d3prefs, at least running 7 or 8 bots with few or no lag.

the bad new: with all this ram in and out, testing and restarting, i finally got some bluescreens, always when i run nvidia monitor my pc crashes.... never had this before -.-

damn, shall i try a new win7 install or connect/disconnect everything new with my mobo?

It is not stupid, his system runs stable and yours does not, as of now at least. Blue screen means something is off. Please answer the questions i asked in my last post:) A format of the ssd and clean install is always advised in such situations, but it is important to figure out what caused this. This way you can avoid being in the same situation in a week or so :)

p.s. Please, try to be cool. I know how frustrating hardware/software issues can be, but this is the way to learn how to do things right! :)

i have 7 diablo 3s up and 6 dbs on this computer

that is 2.07% per bot

check your bios and see if you need to configure anything

what windows 7 version are u using? u should have installed professionel or? for example windows home premium only supports 16 gb ram

windows 7 enterprise 64 bit
4 sticks, each 8 gb. doesn't matter in which order i place them or if i place 1, 2 or 4 - it always shows 50% of GB. also in Bios there isn't shown more.

But RAM is not my problem, i am fine witch 16 GB and it would be enough for 10 D3.

Maybe my Gforce GTX 560 is the bottleneck

Bios Settings are default and i have a button to automatically overclock my cpu.

I haven't seen anything in the bios setup that looks strange, beside that i wouldn't even know it.

Try the system with ram only in slots 1+3, should read 16 ... then try only slots 2+4 , should read 16

mobo might have a bad channel?

or rule out everything and try 1 stick in each of the 4, one at a time

sorry if that's not what you mean by it only shows half
