How to gear up from heirlooms ?

So i have my new main, i plan to stick to pve doing raids and end game content,
my guy is currently leveling in heirlooms, at what level should i start to gear him up and how should i go about it ??

Use the heirlooms till you out-level them (you can see the max lvl on the item) and then just buy some basic gear from the AH if you haven't gathered it from questing yet.

What he said. Heirloom guys always have the best dps and protection, until level 86, and that is when most heirlooms stop getting stronger. You should replace them as soon as you out level them, with gear that has better stats.
