How to configure vmware for D3 DB

Can anybody explain what needs to be done in order to run DB and D3 smoothly? I tried configering it with 2 core (I7 1.6GH) with 2gb of ram, but it was lagging so bad I coudlnt use it...

I may be wrong but the 2 general rules seem to be (correct me if I'm wrong):

- use 1 core per vm
- always keep 1/2 of your total ram for your host system
