How does Blizzard have the right to scan your personal computer for other software?

They can scan their own software and detect a .dll injected into it.

ever hear of Punkbuster?

detecting players botting should be trivial, if they keep track of things like settings, version of client, etc
They could easily find botters using legal methods/not using warden

Perhaps they finally got smart

I hope that Blizzard is ready to see their user base disappear. All that will be left are Chinese farmers and 10 year olds. After this I am done.

I'm assuming using the 32-bit client could have been a huge giveaway to something not being right. You want to ban a lot of people. Start by filtering out everyone using 32-bit client. It's not the default client and there's really no reason to run it. Now you've substantially lessened the names in your playerbase list and you start applying more and more filters until you find patterns.

I'm not sure they are scanning. I haven't taken any steps to hide my HB folder, yet I was not hit. I'm curious whether this 'new detection' is a recent thing, as I haven't been playing/botting for the last 2 months.

This. I always thought it was a bad idea not to upgrade to a 64 bit because very few legit people would be running 32 bit client. It's easy for me to say, I know it was only possible to do what they did because Blizz fucked up once and released the 32 bit client data, but the fact that HB could only run 32 bit was going to be used against it sooner or later.

They never did though because it just wasn't worth the $$ to do so. At the end of the day, the original audience for HB, trash account gold farmers, have had 5 years of botting with bans here and there. This is merely a setback for them... They will be back with some other bot.

For those of us who used HB as a crutch for our gameplay or as a way to take out the boring shit, we are the one's hit hardest, and there's not much can be done. As they said 'we told you not to use your main accounts'.

OOO god Punkbuster and fairfight fail any one remember that on a few games damn thing would go crazy and mass ban for no reason lol like warz legit player or not we were all scared of being ban.

they don't

blizz can do anything they please if they dont plan on admitting it, or using it as evidence to decide to ban or not.

but they can sure do it if it means narrowing down their search of their own mem space. knowing exactly what you are looking for makes it much easier to find.

For example why are you leveling your Undead Warlock in the Tauren area.... and doing the same quests and skipping the same ones on all your characters.

what makes that kinda scary, i just started an undead mage, and it went straight to kalimdor at lvl5 to level. razor hill all the way, baby.

surprisingly, its the only account that didnt get banned today. detections certainly werent today. and id go as far as saying they werent detecting any action. id guess its something like pqr, where if you had the software on your box, you got a suspension/ban. that would explain the vague 'exploiting game mechanics' bans. if they had actual evidence gained through a detection, the bans would likely specify.

but hey, im just guessing

HB staff said they think its detected tho so im gonna go with them

Blizzard did this for one reason. They kicked long standing members to get them to pay for the game again on another account.

Thanks so much for contacting us here at Blizzard Entertainment today, it was a pleasure chatting with you!

This is just a follow up regarding the conversation we had about the World of Warcraft account. As we discussed the account was found to be using third party software which resulted in the current account action. The appeal has been sent to be reviewed and will have an email sent with the findings. The forum post has information regarding the action that was taken against the account.
