I have downloaded and extracted honorbuddy. When I go to open the program, it instantly tells me that "Honorbuddy has encountered an problem and needs to close"

The error says:

AppName: honorbuddy.exe AppVer: 2.0.0.5104 AppStamp:4e293450
ModName: kernel32.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModStamp:411096b4
fDebug: 0 Offset: 0001eb33

This is my first time ever trying to use this program, so please understand I dont know a lot about how things work.

make sure you have .net 3.5 installed, and are running hb as admin

I did a fresh install of 3.5, now I get a different error "The type initializer for 'system.windows.application' threw an exception.

This error gives me the option to send a report to Bossland Gmbh (which I did)

Any suggestions?

Precise error message ^^ (not).
My suggestions:
1. Make sure you run Honorbuddy with admin rights.
2. Don't run it from a network driver.
3. Update your Windows.
3. Start WoW first and login with a char before you start Honorbuddy.

Hope that helps but chances are not so good :/

I have windows XP SP3, and only one account, so I think the admin part is good to go. What do you mean run it from a network driver?

I meant network drive. A part of your harddisc that you share with other computers in your network. But I think you don't do that. So without a detailed error message (that is not available...) it's hard to say (at least for me) where the source of the error is. Hope that someone else can help you.

Thank you for trying, I wish i could be of more help in providing particular details of the error, but I only get that screen

ONly things I can suggest.

Make sure Windows is Up to date
Make sure you have the latest service pack for Net 3.5
Do a fresh install of Honorbuddy.

Right Click> Properties>compatibility> Run as admin

Ok, I tried to hold down shift and right click, then selected run as, then selected my account. I then got a new error:

hb error 2.webp

I still get the original error when trying to open the normal way

I think your account is not an admin account. You can check this under Start -> System preferences -> Usermanagement (or something similar. I don't know exactly how this is called in English). Then you may create a new admin account and launch Honorbuddy with it. Or you manage to launch it with the admin account that was created with the installation of windows xp.

I checked, my account is listed as "Computer Administrator"

alright we need to step back and look at this together...

HB requires a few things to run

.net 3.5 sp1
run as admin
sometimes wow has to be run as admin (attaching issues, not 'starting' issues)

if you're not getting privileges - then it's a windows system administrator issue and you need to fix the issue

So, you can do 1 of 2 things...

update windows xp and run as admin
or
throw away the XP and get windows 7

Solved!!

The problem has been solved. Apparently, I didn't have the "updated" version of windows updater, so while I had updates set to install each day automatically (thinking I was up to date) I wasn't receiving any updates. So, after installing 119 updates...yeah 119...the error is gone and I can log in. Thank you everyone for the input and help!
