Evening,
I just downloaded the last release Honorbuddy 2.5.6211.431 and Bitdefender immediately showed talking about Thumb.db, I then decide to delete that file and start Honorbuddy.exe.
I never start Honorbuddy without changing it's name, so I changed it to antivirus.exe, tried to start it, and antivirus.exe immediately vanished, I tried two times more by re-unzipping hb.exe and renaming it, all the time the file vanished. So I didn't changed the name and started Honorbuddy.exe by itself, and Comodo appeared and told me that honorbuddy tried to create some random files, copying itself and removing itself on some C locations and the names used looks pretty suspicious for such a program, like TEST.exe and crypt32, tmp.tmp? around 10 sec after launching the program Comodo firewall got processkilled for some reasons that's why I can't show more informations.

Why did HB tried to create that sample.exe file? and delete itself?

That's the temporary updater for the test version honorbuddies. It's trying to pull the new one, delete the old one, and then reopen. It's a false positive, while it does look suspicious. Id create exceptions for the entire HB folder.

That's what happens when you get these outrageous virus scanners that think everything in the world is a virus.

I would like you guys to know, that a bot is a program that sends packets and other things into another program, AKA a hack, so of course it's going to show up as a virus.

Start learning what you are dealing with before you start posting things that could be harmful to sells and usage on it's collective website.

Farmer Dan.

I checked some other versions and they didnt get flagged, it just happens sometimes, and you can manually whitelist honorbuddy.exe in your av tool .

as long as you dl it from our server (ie: from the release thread) - there will never be any trojans or anything

cheers

That's what you get for having so many dang windows open O.o

yea, i think comodo is a bit overkill like going after a fly with a bazooka. once you have it whitelist it honorbuddy and the updater, it should be fine.

I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials and never had a problem with a "virus" from HB popping up.
